His Facebook page lists his birthdate as May 5, 1994. That was the information that was available at deadline.
Further checking has his birthdate at May 5, 1995. We will correct that information.

I have heard there was at least one parent keeping their kids home from school because of concerns of violence at West Middle. I would like to know if this parent had notified the school.

According to a call in on fox 59, students say they informed their teacher or principa of what the rumor was.. And that was why the girl stayed home from school.

I don`t know whether this shooting involved bullying or threats that others were aware of, so my comments might be irrelevant to this story. Many times when I`v heard these stories of suicide, injury or death these have been my thoughts. When some child has been known to threaten or bully another, it should be reported to the parent or guardian and law enforcement. The parent should then be held accountable to"crack the whip"( not physically) and "lay down the law to the offender that this behavior will not be tolerated!!! the parent needs to take their parenting responsibilites seriously1 Make sure their child is taught right from wrong and keep on top of the childs behavior. Set a good example for their child to begin with! I realize that in today`s world this is not always possible , especially with all this media stuff going on, but maybe it could open some eyes and prevent harm.

Some of the text messages coming from inside the school says the boy was upset about being expelled. Of course this is unsubstantiated rumor at this point but so is the rest of the news that going around. This came from Facebook parents whose children are texting them.

Ron,

You are right on.

You are right on because wrong can't come from truth. When they started teach secular humanism a few generations ago in the government schools the stripped hope from the children's lives. Through a few generations of education Grandparents, parents and children have all been hurt. It won't be until parents snap out of the illusion and take their children out of the system will anything change.

It's sad.

Peace and Prayers for all who are affected by this :(

Ron you have some good points but to you and Liberty, I understand you have an opinion and am welcome to it, but lets not use this terrible situation to promote a political position on things.

I'm sorry for the kids involved I mean it's already bad enough.

Liberty: I too agree with Ron. However, I do not agree that the answer is pulling our kids out of the system. I think we can better serve our children by giving them a firm foundation in Christ which will not only provide the Hope that so many are missing, but will also provide them with the tools to survive - in the school system and in the world. We need to equip our children to live their lives to the fullest!

I witnessed heroes today. Heroes and caring people making sure all the kids were safe, secure, and sane. I did not however, witness safe, secure, and sane reporting by the news. When will the news media learn that when these things happen to make sure ALL is true before they put this garbage on?

GOD BLESS the citizens of Morgan Co.

Ron is 100% right. Its not political, its facts. Now I agree a lot of rumors today, but if someone was warned about this in advanced, even if it were just the fact that something could occur, then the authority system at West has failed us all and one young man has been serioulsy injured. I am sure the powers that be at our school system will scramble to cry no wrongdoing on their parts, like ususal. We should not stand for that and demand our children much better protection...it happened here and anyone involved should be held accountable starting at the top!!

As sad as today was for Martinsville, I'm proud of the way our town responded. If only we could have responded sooner.

I am only speaking for myself. Since the parents of the victim won't be reading this post of towns people, it certainly is more important to use this terrible situation to promote solutions to the root cause of this rather than to pay lip service on how sorry we are about this so everyone can see that I'm sad.

Adults of this community must stand up and make changes and stop playing sorrowful games to look good but never doing more than to say "someone should change things" and blame the parents and then drop it. Adults don't play games like that. So maybe we have these problems because those in this community who can , won't because they haven't grown-up yet or they don't know how to be responsible.

There are root problems that must be changed and no amount of tweaking can make a difference. I believe that's what I was agreeing with and for everyone's information that's not politics, that's being a responsible adult. When the result of overall all larger problems with society results in actions like these we must draw enough strength of the moment to institute solutions and deal with the root causes.

For someone to accuse adults who step up and talk about solution to something as horrible as this is simply wrong and out of order. To even consider dealing with solutions for a system that "molds" the minds of our students as it did their parents and grand parents, as "politics" show everyone on here how far gone from this community it ability to run it's own system is. That's sad.

The Lord is at Work taking care of this now and We should Pray for all those involved. Even for those who will hold guilt for it that God will give all peace and healing. We should also Pray for the will to start dealing with "The Problem" so our children in the future can have hope in more than themselves that the systems religion of secular humanism teaches.

That's my take on it.

Peace :)
