| Danny Stewart Tuesday, March 29, 2011: 5:11 pm More from Danny Stewart | Ladies and gentlemen, Today I'd like to talk about opportunity. Opportunity is a path with which one has the ability to grow and enrich oneself. More specifically, let's talk about opportunity in Martinsville. As we look around our little town today, we see very little opportunity. There is no industry to speak of. Most of what we have here is either government related or fast food related. Well, I'd like the opportunity to help change all that. For many years now we have witnessed the gradual decay of our town. Our largest employer has left. We have more people than ever before on the welfare rows. The parking lots of our auto dealerships are practically empty. We have many buildings that either sit empty or are used for nothing more than storage for one thing or another. Crime has been on a steady increase. Drug use has also been on a steady increase. For more than two decades we have had the belief that their are only two people that can be good leaders of our community. Under the leadership of these two we have seen how our town has changed. And it has not been for the better. In fact, as we have all witnessed, things have become so bad that we have become accustomed to a high drag, low quaility state of being. In the last two decades we have seen the general attitude of our people go from a low grumbling to an almost constant state of complaining. Anything from family favortism to political favortism, to letters written to people that disagree with whoever is in charge to police brutality, to doing a job half way to save a buck only to have to do the same job again because it wasn't done right the first time. I could go on, but you know the rest. I believe that it is time to change our course. I believe it is time to set a course towards a better tomorrow. A course that will bring new opportunities to our children and grandchildren. A course that will encourage them to want to stay here in their hometown and raise their families instead going elsewhere to seek out their futures. This year, more than any other time, is the time to break away from the same old story of how bad things are. Ronald Reagan taught us that the path to restoring America begins at the dinner table. i am a firm believer that the path to restoring Martinsville also begins at the dinner table. However, I also believe that leadership must encourage our citizens to believe in that path as well. In the words of Ronald Reagan: "We have rendezvous with destiny". We will continue down the same road of degredation or we will turn a corner with the conviction that we will provide a better place for our children and grandchildren. If we fail at least let our children know that we were justified in this change of course and that we did all that could be done. So I ask for your vote on May 3rd. My fellow Artesians, it is time to turn the page. |
| Just observing Tuesday, March 29, 2011: 7:22 pm More from Just observing | Enough with the Bob Seger Artesian BS!.....stop using this as your damn political forum, and the RT staff should be deleting that crap. Quit trying to be something your not! Once you use your own material instead of cut copy and paste someone may take you serious! |
