No active shooter training among the students and school system resulted in a school shooting just as failure of our high school faculty to train in CPR prior to a students death from choking on a hamburger. Does our school system TRULY have the best interest of our kids in mind? What a disgrace that almost cost another life.

Cowboy, in answer to your question---YES, they do have the best interest of the children in mind...You have no idea how this has affected those in the school system. They are human beings like you and me, and they hurt also. They feel pain, sorrow, guilt, grief etc like everyone else. They truly consider every child as their own and want the very best for them. They are only with these children for 8 hours a day, which means parents and responsible parties are with them the remaining 16 hours. These children need guidance not just 8 hours a day, but ALL day. So maybe we all need to look in the mirror and say WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO HELP THESE CHILDREN TODAY. It is not easy these days to raise a child, but maybe if we all work together, and quit pointing fingers at others, we can make a difference in a childs life. Lets give this a try.

Blessed you are so right in what you say. I believe it all starts at home and as a community we need to work together for the benefit of the children. Please pray for all involved!

COWBOY...you are absolutely correct! Theres a time and place for everything, prayers and attention are in order for all. HOWEVER, the fact still remains that most people posting have no clue of the reactions that did or did not take place at that school. It didn't happen on the parents watch it happened at school and I am tired of a few people saying how the school did all they can. Bologna.....wait and see what hopefully comes to the surface in the near future. They dont even understand the meaning of active shooter. You people think those officers were responding with various assault rifles for the hell of it. They were prepared to protect those kids at any cost and its a little difficult when you have people unprepared wandering around in the line of fire and asking dumb questions! The response from law enforcement was simply outstanding, the school was mediocre at best. I seriously doubt most of you were there. No one said they dont care, the facts are they were unprepared with their plan and security measures. The headlines told it all "WMS STUDENT SHOT"

The police dept. did an outstanding job of handling the situation. They see situations similar to this in their line of work almost daily. However, a school is set up to EDUCATE our children, and it is so sad that now the school must also deal with situations such as this. If this shooting had happened in the local grocery store (as it could have), would you then blame them and say they should have known a shooter could one day walk in and do this? Society as a whole is to blame for this incident----and instead of blaming our schools, lets work together to fix our society. If this boy was expelled and no longer a student, and had a history of violence, his PARENTS were responsible for him. Why was he at a FRIEND'S house the night before? I think our schools will definitely be looking at how to ensure this doesn't happen again, but the fact remains that this can happen ANYWHERE, at ANYTIME. Prayers still going out for all involved.
