Wire said: Liberty, I'm a teacher in the local public school system, but I'm not in the union and refuse to join the union. That should be plenty of information for you to form an opinion about me. What are your thoughts?

Why do you refuse to join the union ?

Liberty said: I'm sorry Wise, that should have read :What was the relevance of your reasons then for not joining the union and why aren't they relevant now ?

I had some issues with the union in another corporation a few years back and told myself at the time I'd never bother with a union again. The union here doesn't have those problems, which is why my reasons are no longer relevant.

As I promise you Wire I'll answer your question. Unlike someone who pays a union the equivalent of a $300,000.00 family retirement benefit in their career just to be dealt with as a whole and not as an individual, There is no way possible to know who you are, what you think, what your goals are, what your morals are or what you promote and fund, you are an Individual. You do not pay a union to act on your personal behalf, you do not give a union the equivalent of a $300,000.00 of a career savings account to speak for you or promote and vote for you. No, you have shown that you are you and because the pressure by the NEA'ers can be great, it's evident  you also can stand-up and think on your own. You are controlled by an individual that doesn't have to conform and that's you. I have two educators as children and they are different as individuals also. Many more among family and friends  and yes, even few in the union and boy can we tell. They attack anything that stands in it's way. The spirit it creates is self-convicting.  We understand because they have gotten what they paid for, they now are part of the union and speaks as one.  They don't seem to even care what their dues are used to promote and fund,  They don't even care that out of all their dues ( $666.00) only $1 is to the ISTA Foundation for the Improvement of Education.

I sense you are a little apprehensive about my campaign against the union-government school system in which you teach. I also sense by your post you feel it's centered on teachers. Well Wise that couldn't be further from the truth and my children can testify to that though they would never make known who they are for fear of their life. Like the teacher union death threats against the governors and legislators of many states this year the union hatred for me make my family feel uncomfortable even though they agree with what I do.

Wait..... I just thought of something. I wonder if any of our local school children heard or read about the hundreds of death threats made against our government leaders and their families by union teachers this year ?..... All just before our local children acting out the same by making threats in their local schools ?......... Teachers have fare more reaching responsibility than most think and for individuals like you who may consider their influence fare too valuable to turn over to a political union to use against their enemies at the detriment of children.

Wise, As I've wrote many times before, I admire and respect the teachers who minister to the community children because they care about children  first and as a job last.  It this kind of teacher that can make a difference you are not alone. I admire your commitment.  Instead of  $1 for children and $665.00 for politics you who refuse their control over your income seem to be  All for children and you keep your politics personal.  The children needs more like you.

Teacher Union members paid big buck to be dealt with as a whole and they even put a website out their to tell what they stand for and support and pay for so it's the union and those who put their due money where their hearts are at that  I expose.   All other teachers are individual people who are as varied and different as anyone else. I know teachers who home-school their children because of the union-government system they work in. Talk about risking your life with the union.

I will leave you with this Wise, The condition of the school system is not your fault. You did not create it nor did you cause it's problems. You have stuck it out and have tried to do the best for the children who haven't any option but to go there. You work under a system that is politically controlling from both the government and the union meaning its all about popularity and control power over the system and all it's political resources. How you can ever educate within that environment I'll never understand.

You do not pay to keep it the way it is. You do not pay to demoralize it or teach secular humanism.  You do stand as an independent none conformance teacher for the purpose of children and nothing else and since that's all I know about you that's they only opinion I can have and I praise you for it.

below are a couple of non-union associations that will give you the same financial and liability protections and resources without the union politics. At a very low annual fee.

Sorry for the length of my reply. Just wanted to be thorough.

Professional Associations

The two largest non-union professional associations for teachers both swear off politics and hefty dues, charging teachers for liability insurance and not much more.

The Association of American Educators “is the largest national, non-union, professional teacher association, offering educators an alternative to the partisan politics and non-educational agendas of the teacher labor unions.” The association offers a $2 million liability insurance benefit, plus legal fees. Visit AAE at www.aaeteachers.org.

The mission of Christian Educators Association International is to “serve the educational community by encouraging, equipping and empowering Christian educators serving in public and private schools.” The association offers a $2 million liability insurance benefit, plus legal fees. Visit CEAI at www.ceai.org.

Also a couple of links to the history and purpose of the NEA and an informative site for parents and teachers not under the union control.
