It seems many serious life situations and events seem to be a joke with most pre-teens, teens (and many adults) these days. Very serious issues are viewed as "the norm" and are laughed off. To be able to get the cold hard truth to finally sink in, the reality of breaking the law has to be presented with hard facts. Even as an adult sitting in a court room waiting to talk about a speeding ticket, my eyes were opened years ago as to the seriousness of breaking the law. Before the court even began the court secretary informed everyone of the consequences beginning with a class A misdemeanor to a class D felony - very scary!! If a judge and police officer would go to the schools and present these facts to the student body, leaving no stone unturned, I believe everyone would think twice before harming themselves or others. Hardly anyone I've asked really knows the true harsh consequences of bad choices because they have not been educated in this area.
