Donation kick starts youth center plan

Why not partner with them to add and update programs. Starting yet another center doesn't help anyone. I'm sure the YMCA board would be interested in any ideas, or help with funding. |

| nobodyimportant Tuesday, May 17, 2011: 6:24 pm More from nobodyimportant | I don't know about this group, but I believe their intentions are in the best interest of the children. I do wonder why it is felt necessary to create another program rather than supporting the expansion of an existing one. Splitting the resources available might be detrimental to both organizations's fiscal viability. |
| Liberty Wednesday, May 18, 2011: 12:38 am More from Liberty | In order to pay for the ongoing costs, Taylor’s plan includes member charges of $20 per year, individual pledges, corporate/private giving, grants, rental income and fundraisers. He projected that those sources could bring in $192,500 per year. $192,000.00 per year ? Kind of reticulated, You can pay for full membership for over 100 young people at the YMCA for less than $25,000.00 per year TTL. That's with all the programs, ball teams, Olympic pool, basketball leagues, workouts, activities, and every conceivable program you can imagine for young people. Do you know what you can do with the other $167,000.00 plus? Help the children's parents to make a better home for the children. Since you probably won't have but 30-50 max membership you will only need about $10,000.00 to give them more guidance that no other org could ever come close too. If you really care about and want to help a child, pay for their YMCA membership. There is no need for another club as proven by the boys and girls club folding. This make no sense unless you want to throw money down the drain. Don't charge young people $200.00 for a fraction of what you can give them by a simple Y membership. Also if you want to help the community make it a family membership so the family units can grow closer. Someone very close to us does this for three children. That's my solution for a non existent problem. Peace :) . |

| jon Wednesday, May 18, 2011: 9:37 am More from jon | What they need to put in there is an indoor skate park, putt putt course, arcade games, a concession stand, possibly a go kart track.... etc. Make it a place for teenagers as well as adults....family oriented. Have adults at the facility for security. It would bring in money all the time...get kids off the streets and provide a few jobs. Rascals in Whiteland is constantly busy and a nice family atmosphere. Martinsville definately needs something for kids to do on weekends and summer break!! Something that might keep them from getting in so much trouble!! |
