Thank you, Martinsville, for protesting Klan materials

He is and will be responsible for his actions whatever they may be and his hatred. I do not live in Martinsville nor do I know your brother. It is heartbreaking for you as a twin to try to understand his reasoning and to not be close to your brother. |
| Blessed Tuesday, June 21, 2011: 12:56 pm More from Blessed | Thank you for your letter. It took a very BIG person to write it and as justamother said, you are not your brothers keeper. We all need to stand with you and hope that your brother changes his way of thinking. Again, thank you for speaking from your heart. |
| Liberty Tuesday, June 21, 2011: 1:01 pm More from Liberty | James, I would like to add that even your brothers position isn't that unusual in the world today. Everyone just jumps on him because it's politically popular to do so. But the way many have jump on him also illustrates the same hatred towards your brother that I suppose he has towards others with darker skin like the KKK is known for. The same hatred can be found in those of just about any racial groups rather they are Black, White, Yellow, Tan, The same hatred can be found in those of just about any religious group who hates others religious groups like many so-called Christians do towards Muslims, Jewish and other denominations and sec's. The same can be said of those who hate politicians of their opposing party, yes even obama. The same hatred can be found in those who hates those of a different language or country like Israel, Palestine, Mexico, or USA. The same hatred can be found in those hate someone accused of a horrendous crime. And sadly but true the same hatred can be found in those who hates their divorced spouse or a mother in-law. Hate's is Hate in the eyes of God and all is condemnable. So since your brother's hate isn't more condemnable by God than another person who hate someone else then don't be so ashamed of him. We should ,on the other hand feel sad that the world we live is full of those who haven't completely surrenders to the will of Jesus Christ and His will for us, because that's the only way for humans not to hold condemnable hate and sin. Peace :) |
| drummer Tuesday, June 21, 2011: 2:49 pm More from drummer | you make it sound so simple......... go hang around or work around some blacks and you might get your eyes opened. another point, you throw out the word hate....... someone with common sense might just be smart enough to avoid blacks, that doesn't mean they hate them or anyone. last point---- your esteemed attorney general, eric holder, said whites are chicken to talk about race....... you are part of the reason-- the first hint of a different view than you, and you scream racist! hater! etc, so there can be no discussion, like the percentage of crimes by one race, or who doesn't take advantage of the education system etc...... no dads present at home....... |
| nobodyimportant Tuesday, June 21, 2011: 5:28 pm More from nobodyimportant | Drummer, I am having some difficulty figuring out where you are coming from. You say you don't hate, and I will take that at face value. But it is clear that you have lumped together people of a race and made some assumptions about all of them (profiled). I don't know if your views have been developed through direct experience, what you have heard from others, seen in the media, or if none or all of those. What is clear to me is that fear is part of what is going on with you. I'm no fool, there are places in this world where I would not place myself for no reason at all. Some of those places are in cities, some in the rural areas, and some right here in Morgan County. On the other hand, if my reason for going somewhere was to minister to someone or bring the good news of the Gospel to the lost, I would not be so faint-hearted to only go to places where I was "comfortable" with the surroundings or the people there. Thank God missionaries and people of God's army were willing to go into unsafe places. The fathering of children and then abandoning them is certainly not limited to people of color. Just look around. Spend some time in the local courts. It is a shame that men and women (boys and girls) are willing to play adults for their own pleasure but deny responsibilities for raising and nurturing the children they produce. It is an act of extreme selfishness. But it is not a "black culture" thing. I won't defend people make such decisions. But I also won't elevate myself above them with the "at least I'm not that bad" attitude. My sins, and I suspect yours, are every bit as egregious as those that you mention. Their isn't a heirarchy of sin. We all do it and so we are brothers and sisters all in the same boat, regardless of the color of our skins, the wealth we do or don't have, the amount of education we have or any of those things. The opposite of hate is love. We are called to love one another, and not with feelings, but actions. Love has nothing to do with feelings. The apostle Paul said it this way, " Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." |

| drummer Tuesday, June 21, 2011: 7:18 pm More from drummer | address the points........... if you can't, perhaps you are a fool |
| Sunny Tuesday, June 21, 2011: 8:25 pm More from Sunny | I associate racial prejudice with laziness amplified to the third power. It's much easier to hate and have malice! It requires the following: * A slower than normal thought process * No justification * A group to appropriate societal ills toward * A focus for ones negative energy * (Last but not least)... A fun joke to tell at the local tavern on Friday nights! It's just much easier.... My postman neglected to ring the doorbell the other day and have me sign for a highly expected package. I had to go to the post office and retrieve it myself the next day. So...Now I just hate all postmen. |
| bob searcy Tuesday, June 21, 2011: 10:44 pm More from bob searcy | i only hope that there was legal justification in denying said materials to be distributed. it may have been some real closedminded and hateful publications but we cant make up laws as suits the current mood.. |
| Liberty Tuesday, June 21, 2011: 10:59 pm More from Liberty | I remembered third from a history class. It's very interesting and hardly ever talked about today. It does illustrate one of those 180 deceptions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVzJ2RIlUwE Click for congressional record http://books.google.com/books?id=yh5PKXIKU3IC&lpg=PA14414&ots=5xNm9pNvXE&dq=joseph%20hayne%20rainey%20congressional%20record%201871&pg=PA14414#v=onepage&q=Joseph%20Hayne%20Rainey&f=false http://www.blackpast.org/?q=1871-joseph-h-rainey-speech-made-reply-attack-upon-colored-state-legislators-south-carolina Click for some more history of the Klan ==http://www.libertyinkjournal.com/1680-democrats-started-the-ku-klux-klan Maybe some do have something to fear around this county. And like the one post said, political speech and handouts are protected. I'm not being political but just pointing out history, and the KKK in such a republican county. Peace :) PS, Follow Jesus and not a political party. You'll live longer. |
| Danny Stewart Wednesday, June 22, 2011: 4:16 pm More from Danny Stewart |
I assiciate your ignorance for a lack of experience in the real world. Either that or you, and some others around here that seem to think they are the intellegent ones with their so called middle of the road view on everything, live your daily life with blinders on. Drummer is right on target. He is not promoting hate in the least bit. He is speaking straight forward honest truth. It is a know fact, at for those of us that have actually gotten out of Morgan County, prejusice among black people towards white people is about 100 times greater than the other way around. That is a reality. Perhaps those of you so called social elites around should take a look outside your tight little guilded cages and see the world for how it really is. You also stated that you didn't believe that welfare dependence had become generational. Again. take the blinders off. It has indded become generational. Every day I see people at the bigfoot on main street using those welfare cards. 99% of them are perfectly able to work. Many of them have a better phone than I do and I have one of the top phones out there. I actually saw a girl use one of those cards in that store, go out and get into a fairly new Volvo C70 convertable. It has nothing to do with religion or anything else. It's a cold hard fact of life. People are becoming more and more dependent on the government willfully. There is one thing I have noticed lately. Those of your that claim to be the so called social elite, middle of the roaders, intellectual minded people of this rat hole of a town, don't have a clue as to what is going on right under your noses. Like i said, Drummer was not being narrow minded or racist in the least bit.He sees reality. Like it or not, it's a dog eat dog world out there not a utopia as some of you would like to think Martinsville is. This town has a poverty rate of nearly 60% of it's population and you refuse to see it. I guess the old saying is true. Ignorance is bliss. And believe me, this town has a lot of ignorance. I'm not sure if I should laugh, or or be saddened. I can say this. It is astouding at what you so called intellectuals fail to see around you and how narrow minded that you really are. I can tell you from personal experience, it is those of you that do think you are the intellectual types that are the narrow minded ones, not someone like Drummer. |
| nobodyimportant Wednesday, June 22, 2011: 6:14 pm More from nobodyimportant | Did you ever notice that most of the time when someone uses a term like, "It is a know(n) fact", it usually is followed with an opinion, not a fact? Prejudice is just another word for putting someone else down because of.....(you name it). You'd have to be a hermit not to understand that prejudice exists at all levels, in all cultures, maybe with the exception of the Amish and maybe the Mennonites. They very plainly don't look down their noses at anyone. They may limit their exposure, but they raise themselves above others. To say that something is 100 times another is just a way of saying, "I'm justified in my position because they are worse than me." My response to that is, not one of us is responsible for what others do, think, or say. And what they do, think, and say, cannot be the reason for our prejudice, bigotry, hate....whatever you want to call it. I expect each one of us had a parent or two that said something to us like, "because Johnny did it isn't an excuse for you doing it." And, it isn't about religion? I disagree. I cannot think of anything.....anything that is or should be separated from my faith life. Once I start telling God that I don't need Him for this or that, I am lost. Even if were not a person of faith, I know right and wrong. It is wrong to place myself above others, to look down on others because they do things I will not do because those things are wrong. I don't think that makes me a "social elite, middle of the roaders, intellectual minded people of this rat hole of a town." I am far from perfect, and I will never be perfect till I die or Jesus comes. I engage in this conversation not to present myself as better, or smarter, or holier. I choose to say these things because it lines up with my understanding of what God has said in His Word and what I am reading on this thread does not. (in my opinion). Jesus ministered to prostitutes, evil tax collectors, legalistic Jewish leaders, and the scum of the earth (in that day, to Jews, Samaritans). He never held himself up to be better. He even demonstrated that when he took the job of the lowest servant in the household of that day and washed the feet of visitors. Be assured that I am not comparing myself to Jesus. I am trying to be more like him. I am pointing out that He would counsel us to look for ways to love, not find excuses for our low opinions of others, reach out, not turn our backs, have compassion, not resentment, and consider others more important than ourselves, even if they don't share our values. |
