There have been numerous reports of lower than average students performance (ISTEP scores), bullying, school shootings, academic leaders drunk driving arrests, teachers sexually abusing students etc. reported in this newspaper alone. My sons are grown now, but I would certainly be looking for options other than the current public schools if I had a child in the school system.

As for secular educational entrepeneurs, you raise a good question. Could be a supply and demand issue. The public schools have become secular, so it might be a moot point.

What a bunch of BS when the writer says the government wants to subsidize religious schools! Ha! Is he talking about the same government that has taken prayer and any reference to God OUT of the public schools? Are you kidding me?

Pascal, try looking at this from the perspective of the parent/taxpayer that has worked a second job and done without new cars and vacations to pay to send their child to a private school while their tax money goes to the local public school that their kid doesn't even attend. Those parents are paying TWICE. How fair is that?

And God help us all when Liberty chimes in on this one.

i dont claim to know much but i just see it as an education option.. perhaps the same vouchers could be made available for home schooling for the parents dont want their kids indoctrinated by the red , white, and blue materialism machine..

All I can say Pascal.....You must not have any children in the MSD of Martinsville! You would be gathering up vouchers by the dozen!
