read more recent story comments Reader comments| Uncle Joe Tuesday, November 1, 2011: 10:09 pm More from Uncle Joe | Thanks Obama. My adult children can stay on my plan til the age of 26 and my wife's $10 copay on her birth control pills have been waived so they are now "free". The bad news is my health insurance went up 30% and I can no longer afford it. The official name of Obamacare is The Affordable Care Act.....yeah right....affordable for who???? |
| ConfusedAgain Wednesday, November 2, 2011: 8:32 am More from ConfusedAgain | The County of course is probably looking at a traditional insurance instead of the Health Savings plan. The Health Savings plan would be a savings to both the employee and the County. The County however, wants it to be high so that their self insurance scam will look similar. They are still paying a 3rd party to do their work, you know the one's that pay Councilman Collier rent. |

| nobodyimportant Saturday, November 5, 2011: 9:50 am More from nobodyimportant | Misdirected rimshot Uncle Joe. You already have a health care plan under the affordable health care legislation? Some provisions have been phased in, but most of this legislation has not been implemented, and probably won't be after the Republicans gut it. Health care costs have skyrocketed over the past two decades and continue in an un-managable upward spiral in our current system. The average health insurance plan for a family of four now costs over $20,000 a year between employer and employee share. That is more than 30% of Morgan County wage earners make in a year! Our State and Federal governments are pouring ever-increasing billions and soon to be trillions into Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare RX, and the host of state health insurance plans. It is a mess and it isn't going to get better unless it is legislated. You have to at least give President OBama credit for tackling this issue. Left alone, the uncontrolled costs of health care is doing more to depress the economy than any other single factor. I left my Republican roots over this issue. On many, many issues, I consider myself a right-leaning conservative. I'm not a hard-right zealot though that sees evil in each and every idea or initiative of our president. Your wife's increased costs of her health care plan can't be tied to the national health care initiative. Ask anyone else who has health care insurance and is privy to the information about its total cost, including any employer share, and you will find out that those cost continue to rise far faster than the rate of inflation. And for all this, we are among the unhealthiest of advanced world nations. And what is going to happen is that the national health initiative will be either totally scrapped or so amended that it becomes nothing originally intended. The Republicans have no answer for the mess. They have no intention of doing anything except keeping what pre-existed the legislation. Dig deeper in your pocket, Uncle Joe. You ain't seen nothin yet! |
