The Marine Corps Ball is a Marine tradition since it was first directed to be held by the 13th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, General John A Lejeune in November 1921. Since then, no matter where Marines are gathered, a Marine Corps Birthday Ball, or celebration in kind, is held. Since I entered the Marine Corps in 1975, I have attended these celebrations stateside and overseas. The Marine Corps League Morgan County Detachment #1367 was merely upholding Gen. Lejeune's request and carrying on the tradition. Semper fi, GySgt Philip L. Fowler, USMC (Retired) Adjutant, Morgan County Detachment #1367

Morgan County has one new Marine as of today. My grandson, Alex Redelman, 2011 graduate of Mooresville High School, was sworn in at MEPS and left for California today.

I wish your grandson well and may God be with him. My husband went to one of the meetings at Martinsville. They were about the unfriendliest people he has come across. He said he won't go back. Their meeting was boring because they kept going back and forth to each officer and they didn't know what they were doing.

Thank you NannyG. It is sad that the meeting was not a good thing. Sounds like- good idea gone bad! Maybe you and I should show up and get them in line! Takes a woman's touch. LOL
