I agree with Ron, my children are there to learn. It wasn't even Morgan County or city police officers that were involved. Who knows what they told the kids. Just someting else to distract them when they are trying to get their education. It's a little tooo precautious for me however I know some people will disagree.

Sorry to disappoint you Mr. Schoolcraft but the -4 has nothing to do with me. All that I was saying is that it is better to be safe than sorry. Response times from any of our law enforcement or emergency personnell are not going to be very good. All attention is on one location. I am sorry that you think that all of this is silly. So, let's say that a high school student needs to leave and go to an appointment and gets in a wreck on the way, but due to this emergency going on there is no one to respond and help in a timely manner. I would rather my children stay in school untill the county is fully staffed by law enforcement. The lockdown isn't because of what is going on or where it is, it is about keeping the rest of the county safe if other situations occur.

This is a ridiculous hypothetical situation that does not justify the lock down.

I wasn't directing the "negative button" comment at you, but at all the goof balls who think that it matters at all.

Not arguing the situation, but what does it really matter where the police officers are from? I didn't know that what agency is involved determines what precautions are taken. I see all points of view on this though.

Honestly, I don't see the problem in locking down the schools. The schools carry on business as usual, with no recess opportunities. If anything, it's a more focused environment that literally has no negative backlash aside from the intial predictable panic. Locking down the schools is not an issue, and the staff/students are trained on the manner.

I'm quite surprised that our conversation has turned to the "lockdown" and not to our police officers and their safety. It's concerning, really.

I am in the schools and did not see any disruption in the learning process. I do not understand why all of the comments about such a serious situation is about what the schools did instead of what was really going on. How did four officers get into a situation that they were being held hostage?

Thanks Turtle for your confirmation that it was not disruptive to the schools. Hopefully, none of the officers were hurt.

The simple answer for why they would have the Level 1 lockdown at the schools is this. A hostile situation, involving a gun and possible hostage situation. While this location isn't exactly right next to a school, it's not THAT far from the Green township elementary. What if this idiot with the gun got away from the scene. It's quite possible that he could head in the direction of GT elementary...Not totally out of the question.

Given that scenario and the situation we had last year with the school shooting, our Administration is in no position to take any chances with the safety of our kids.

I kind of relate it to the Emergency (early warning) sirens we hear quite frequently when severe weather is in the area. Doesn't necessarily mean there will be a tornado, but there's potential and wee should be aware.

I don't know, this is only my speculation, but I have two kids in the school system and if the administration feels they need to follow these protocols, why should we question why they would error on the side of safety/caution?

The guy taking the police officers hostage has a son in the school district. That is why they locked down the school.
