AMEN to term limits!
Lets start with our state Senators.
Lugar should've been gone a looong time ago.

Lugar is no Conservative for sure. He's probably had too much of the grand man about town life having people suck up to him to remember who he used to be.

A well-written article expressing many of my concerns. We need someone courageous enough to submit a bill that would amend the U.S. Constitution to put term limits in place. Then we will see just who stands for us and those that don't.

We are losing the middle class. If trends continue, the gap between the rich elite and working men and women will continue to grow. Already, most politicians define the middle class as the small business owner, not the prototypical skilled labor or college grad family of the 40-s-90's.

Much of crime today can be traced to the hopelessness that is pervasive in young people. The American dream seems so unattainable. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that it is impossible for someone to start out poor and become rich, thus there is no reason to try. It can and does happen. But it is like the discussion on another article...the one about high school tourney basketball in Indiana.

Yes, it is possible for a small school like Milan to win a state tournament in one-class basketball. But one such occurance in 50 years+-
of a single class system does not instill hope in a team from Eminence, Edinburgh, or even Monrovia. The expectation of a one or two game tournament experience in one-class basketball becomes reality.

In a country that was growing, exploring, expanding, there was reason to hope. I see now about the third generation that I describe as having lost hope. For centuries, the next generation did better than their parents. Now, look at the number of families where adult children have come back to live with parents (or never left). Look at the growing gap in earnings between entry level and management. We are plummeting toward a two-class America. It is scary.

There is plenty of blame to go around and the solution is hard to see. There is no need to assume this is leading to a solution called wealth redistribution.

People smarter than I am will need to figure out what steps are needed. Some things I believe need to be in the factors to consider are: measures to stop the exportation of jobs to foreign nations by American business and industry;
a return to the concept that the workforce is an asset worthy of supporting, not a burden; measures to stop being a willing participant in the manipulation of currency exchange that lowers the value of the American dollar; and reasonable tariffs that make it possible once again for American-made produsts to be price competitive.

Until those kinds of things are done by courageous leaders, we need to keep politicians on a short leash with term limits that discourage
the coziness that is self-serving to both the politicians and the greedy fat cats.
