Council acts on abatement proposals

Why don't you do us all a favor and disband. All you do is buy power from IPL and turn around and sell it to us which makes our electric bills 40% higher than an IPL customer's. Everyone is so concerned about monopolies yet we can't even pick our own electric company or phone company. |
| Hugh Jorgan Tuesday, December 20, 2011: 7:02 pm More from Hugh Jorgan | If you happen to live in an area where landline telephone service is provided by a "co-operative" you are stuck and can't choose to go somewhere else for service. A lot of people don't realize that but it's a fact. |
| KennyD Tuesday, December 20, 2011: 9:10 pm More from KennyD | Hugh Jorgan, Actually SCI REMC purchases it's power from Hoosier Energy. Yes, at certain distribution points power is bought from either Duke Energy, or I.P.L. "Via" Hoosier Energy due to economical reasons and territorial rights claims which can be set from the I.U.R.C. In the past attempts to deregulate utilities have been done. The results...quality of service was lowered and the rates actually went up. Quality of service was lowered because the competing utilities can not work on lines and equipment that did not belong to the other, and why would they be in a hurry during a storm to restore service to a meter of a competitor...they would be the last to be restored. With deregulation also comes higher rates due to the fact that you have to pay a rental or service fee to purchase power from another utility equipment/lines. Rural electrical or phone system means..."Rural". When you live a distance from a populated area the cost of transmitting, distributing, servicing customers goes up due to the lower customer base, and less customers to spread the cost around. Unhappy? Call your board member, voice your concerns, attend the annual meetings, write your local and federal representatives who pass laws that lay heavier financial burdens on the entire industry. Take Care |
| whatever Wednesday, December 21, 2011: 7:29 pm More from whatever | Happy as heck to have IPL out here in Eminenceland. I know so many people who have the other companies, and I have no idea how they can keep up with their utility bills. I guess that is why so many use wood to heat because they know how much a furnace will cost to run for a few months. Crazy that the same type of house costs SEVERAL hundred dollars more to heat than one that is billed by IPL and only one mile away. |

Kenny, how do you explain this argument to a person that lives in the Town of Mooresville who has SCI-REMC and his next door neighbor has IPL? Especially when IPL has service in Eminence (rural). Something just doesn't jive but thanks for sticking up for the rural utilities. Which utility board do you sit on? Or are you employed by one of the local "customer-owned" co-ops?? |
