| Just a Peasant Saturday, December 24, 2011: 7:28 am More from Just a Peasant | Everyone seems to be concerned about “smoking” in businesses and public places in Morgan County. Why has the Health Department not stepped up and proposed a ban on that most disgusting, revolting, and vomit causing habit of all: “chewing” tobacco and spitting in public places and government buildings? I would much rather see an ashtray full of cigarette butts and ashes than an old clear plastic soft drink bottle full of dark brown “spit” sitting on a counter or desk. Maybe if I vomit up my lunch on the counter or floor of some Morgan County business or office and then walk-out someone would get the message! It is just a nasty habit! Please keep it to yourself! |

| downtown customer Saturday, December 24, 2011: 11:40 am More from downtown customer | Smokeless tobacco is just as addictive and harmful to your health as smoking. Nasty habit. Of course, no smoke in the air or smell. Can cause cancer of the mouth which is almost worse than of the lungs. I know because a close member of the family is addicted to it. Lots of young even school age kids use this having friends buy for them. Nothing is ever said about this problem |
| proud redneck Monday, December 26, 2011: 2:22 pm More from proud redneck | problem is that second hand smoke is killing people that are innocent and never lit up in there life but have ya ever heard of anyone dieing from second had ex poser of chewing tobacco nope never will so u can't compare the 2 things for the ban that's in place chewing tobacco is killing no one but the person doing it and smoking is killing others along with yourself. |
| Rod1 Monday, December 26, 2011: 8:50 pm More from Rod1 | I think our cars are putting out more smoke then smoking. We should go back to horses. |
| Moose 65 Tuesday, December 27, 2011: 7:36 am More from Moose 65 | Mr. Walker, Not that I dsagree entirely with your comments, but when the goverment or Doctor decide you can no longer breathe will you be ok with it? If Obama's health care bill passes don't go to the hospital after 70, you may find out. |
| gunny Tuesday, December 27, 2011: 9:27 am More from gunny | I quit smoking several years ago, but I'd still rather smell tobacco smoke than the odor of the bull * being spread here! |
| Hugh Jorgan Tuesday, December 27, 2011: 7:42 pm More from Hugh Jorgan | This is probably the most STUPID article that has ever graced the pages of a newspaper. Was the owner even made aware of why the customer took his business elsewhere? Did the customer take his business completely out of the county to punish all the businesses for the lack of a smoking ban law even though there are several tire businesses in the county that are smoke free?? And lastly how much unneccessary fuel did the customer burn and carbon emitted into the air from his senseless trip to another county just to buy tires??? You people get on a soapbox about something and all logic and common sense "goes up in smoke". Heaven help us all. |
| Uncle Joe Tuesday, December 27, 2011: 7:52 pm More from Uncle Joe | Good point, Hugh. I just re-read the article and it says the customer "changed his mind and walked out, not saying why". So how did these actions "speak volumes"??? I'm sure the owner just thought he was comparative shopping or was " a kook". I guarantee the butts in the ashtray NEVER crossed his mind. |
| Danny Stewart Wednesday, December 28, 2011: 11:17 am More from Danny Stewart | Morgan County is not losing any business due to smoking. Most places don't allow it anyway. People like Jennfer Walker need to go on a diet and mind their own bussiness. |
| nobodyimportant Wednesday, December 28, 2011: 6:33 pm More from nobodyimportant | Moose 65, I see you have bought lock stock and barrel the screeching voices of the extreme right (not conservative right, just the bought and paid for Rupert Murdock "what's in it for me" right) on the health care legislation that was passed last year. Ever since the darling from Alaska coined the term "death panel", this totally fabricated story has taken on a life of its own. As a person over the age of 70, I was concerned when I heard that the government was going to get into the rationing of medical care for the aged. So I did what I suspect you have not done and that is read what was then legislation and now is law. I discovered that in terms we all can understand, "IT AIN'T SO! In fact, what I discovered is that the provisions in the sections that deal with end of life care were very similar to what is on the books now in Indiana. Stop perpetuating the scare story. Having said all that, it looks like the Republicans will gain a majority in Congress, repeal the health care laws and we'll be back to where we were two years ago. Just remember. The issues are: 1) the cost of medical care (highest in the world and we are not a healthy nation); 2) the erosion of employer-supported health insurance (cost of a family plan is now over $20,000 a year and climbing); and 3) the hodge-podge of public medical programs that are robbing us all in waste, fraud, and inefficiencies. The bottom line here is that the Republican simply cannot allow O'Bama to win again, and the health care legislation was to be his legacy. They have to destroy that legacy in order to take him down. And just look at what the Republicans are proposing to address this crucial issue. Are you looking? I am, and I haven't seen the first glimpse of a proposal. I hope you are not one of the families that have to declare bankruptcy because someone in your family gets sick. |
