Jail books
read more recent story comments Reader comments| Justamother Saturday, December 24, 2011: 12:52 am More from Justamother | How many are in jail for theft because they stole to buy SPICE at the local store by Subway. That greedy owner needs to think what he is doing to local youth by selling this dangerous drug which is listed NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION. Do they think anyone would pay $40 for a tiny bag to make their home smell good or feed it to their cat. Pawn shops are busy with young unemployed adults hooked on spice. Sure they should be working. But how can you work when your day is spent thinking about more money for SPICE. So what should they do but steal or pawn from their family. My wish is for the seller to have a son that decides he would like to try it. Then he can suffer like some of the parents have here in Martinsville and other towns. Some have been in rehab or will be going again. Their lives will never be the same. Shame on the ones who sell and line their pockets. |
| jon Tuesday, December 27, 2011: 8:04 pm More from jon | Why are people always trying to pass the buck?? Are we going to blame liquor stores next? Because they sell alcohol its their fault people steal to get money to get drunk? I know a lot of people with teenage kids....including myself. My kids as well as others don't rob n steal to get spice.....come on "just a mother"....let's be real!! I will agree with one point....that place should get in trouble for selling it, but its hardly their fault for the way out of control teenagers are today....parents need to stand up and take control back!!! |
| Justamother Wednesday, December 28, 2011: 12:57 pm More from Justamother | jon: My grandson is not a teen.He is of age which makes it harder to get him in rehab unless he is willing and knows he has a problem. Spice is illegal to sell but my understanding is that because it is listed as not for human consumption they can sell it. It goes by many names and is changed all the time to get around the law. His parents are very hard working people and both have good jobs. They are very good parents so he has not been neglected if any thing spoiled. He was not out of control and never in any trouble.Spice has changed him. I would like to hear from other parents in Martinsville. The spice (or whatever) is not regulated so not one knows for sure what is in it. It is synthetic pot. I agree it hurts no one but the user and their families. The store sells it for $10 and ounce or $30 for 3 ounces. They can use 3 or 4 hundred dollars right quick. Process has started to get my grandson back in rehab and away from his influence users in Martinsville. That is how I know there are others. |
| jon Monday, January 2, 2012: 7:32 pm More from jon | Justamother- First off let me apologize for coming off so harsh. My fingers started typing before and my brain didn't catch up. I have been through what you are going through only with a close friends "adult child" . Spice is a bad thing all the way around...it can cause serious health problems as well as hallucinations. I don't use any type of drug myself but try to stay up on street drugs so I know what to look for in my own children. You said spice sells for $10 an ounce.....compare that to $120 an ounce or more for weed. No wonder people are running to it. They don't stop to think about long term effects. Drugs don't discriminate between upper and lower class families. People these days have no respect for anything anymore...no respect for their parents, the law, or property that others work their tails off for. Drugs are so bad that people will rob, steal, and even kill to get their fix. I was born and raised in this town and have watched it go downhill over the years. I would really like to see the people that run our city to take a more proactive approach to getting our drug problem under control!! Good luck justamother....there's not much support out there |

| downtown customer Tuesday, January 3, 2012: 10:06 am More from downtown customer | Thanks Jon for your last post. I have lived near Martinsville graduated from MHS. many, many years ago. All my children graduated from there. we never had a child that even drank or smoked. But this last generation is different. Drugs are easy to get in Martinsville and spice can be purchased on line. It is hard for parents to get an adult child in rehab if he does not think he has a problem because of the privacy act. There should be some kind of law passed to take especially this drug off the market no matter what they change the name too. I know there are other drugs worse and will always be there for users. But the police in town know exactly the one or two places spice can be purchased but say it is legal the way it is changed to different names. |
