First and most importantly it needs to be done. Local government has control of the 9-1-1 funds currently. It is user fee money and could be used to build or move forward on this project.

First off the Fire and Police Chief's, and the Sheriff should not be the deciding factors. Their opinions are important, but their egos and political agendas shouldn't matter.

The recommendation of creating a new board is a great idea. They need to move, and spend money wisely building 1 center. Doing this twice is crazy.

Most of the decision makers are elected and worrying about getting re-elected. Start thinking about the people you serve and their best interest and safety first.

Everyone can't have their way, their pay, their place, their equipment. The question is... what is best for the Citizens of Morgan County?

This facility should not be placed at or near a police or fire station.

Confused,
What is your claim to expertise on dispatch centers? I'm not being confrontational, I just wondered how or what molded your thoughts.

I will say this. At least for the Fire Chiefs, it is not about politics or egos. If you would sit in on their meetings, the question is..."What is the best way we can provide the best Fire and EMS service to our communities?" One dispatch center is the answer. The second answer is to continue to fund EMA and add ALS (or paramedic) trucks to the county. Do it right Council and Commissioners. Talk about two political egos.

The call center can be located in any location since you are using computers. Check out Cass County and Kosiuscko County. It works. You don't locate them in facilities not protected against fire, floods, tornado or electrical outages.

Just observing,

I am no expert... I ask questions of people working in the emergency services fields. I also used to volunteer my services with fire and ems. I have many friends in law enforcement as well. I have found that counties surrounding ours already have in place the 1 center concept, and it is working well.
