| John Q Public Thursday, February 9, 2012: 4:18 pm More from John Q Public | I'm kind of bothered that the punishment for killing a bird is harsher than some crimes with victims. |
| Rod1 Thursday, February 9, 2012: 4:57 pm More from Rod1 | Maybe they thought it was a chicken. |
| jdigger Thursday, February 9, 2012: 9:33 pm More from jdigger | LOL rod but chicken are kind of limited on their flying maybe it was killing their chickens. |
| Ratcatcher Friday, February 10, 2012: 7:18 am More from Ratcatcher | If I had the pleasure of seeing our national bird flying majesticly over my house I would be more than happy to purchase a few chickens to set out in my yard. (Many of us fill the bird feeders in the winter and the hummingbird syrup in the summer...what's the difference?) |
| whatever Friday, February 10, 2012: 8:42 am More from whatever | The American Eagle is not only our national bird, he is also the most highly esteemed bird of Native Americans. ONLY Native people are allowed to own eagle feathers, they are acquired through the registry that recognizes native people. To be given a feather is a very high honor. Feathers are only given by elders, veterans/fathers and that is it. I have seen DNR take feathers away from people(with no visible or paper evidence that they were native) at different events(pow-wows, reenactments). My father participated in the naming ceremony of the eagles at the Indianapolis Zoo. We also received a poor bird's feathers that perished during the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Such a sad spirit. I will not get into any specifics..but don't joke about something that is so sacred to the first peoples of this continent. Obviously Rod and John Q are very ignorant when it comes to our history. Ratcatcher-I would also put out some chickens just for the photo opp. |
| John Q Public Friday, February 10, 2012: 1:57 pm More from John Q Public | Just last week a woman received a years probation and 14 days in a county jail for neglecting a toddler to inject drugs. A person who killed this bird has the possibility of getting 2 years in federal prison and a $250000 fine. I'm saddened that you somehow feel this is justifiable. And before you talk about me being anti American, please realize that I have done more for your eagle and your flag that you pledge allegiance to than needs to be discussed in this forum. If thinking that a person is more important than a bird is ignorant, I'm happy to be that. |
| Ratcatcher Friday, February 10, 2012: 2:42 pm More from Ratcatcher | John Q The MAXIMUM sentence for shooting the eagle is 2 years and $250K. No judge on the planet is going to give the idiot that did this the max. Wait and see. He'll get a slap on the wrist...Unless of course they find him with a garage full of stuffed eagles and maybe a few ivory tusks to boot. Then he might get 6 months. |
