3211 - WHISTLEBLOWER PROTECTION

Conversely, employees are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination, if they are aware of a violation of Federal, State, or local law that the Board has the authority to correct and they do not make a report confirmed in writing to their immediate supervisor.

Well????????????

It was investigated by Don Alkire...and dismissed as "typical rumors" You would think one would investigate if there were numerous complaints on a student hot line!

Clearly a carefully worded statement from the legal "suits". Plausible deniability. I am sure there was never a conversation had with Mr. Wolf about when he would be departing the district as an educator/coach prior to this incident. ("I know nothing!" said Sergeant Schultz)

Statement should read: Furniss said that in the past, school officials “have heard rumors like everyone else” about Rynard, but that they had “tried to run those rumors down and not give them any substantiation.” Look how that turned out.

BTW, interesting definition for "plausible deniability" can also apply to any act that leaves little or no evidence of wrongdoing or abuse. Hmmmmm.

In other words, the school administrators have complete culpability in this situation. I hope Furniss and the rest of his minions not only lose their jobs, but are prosecuted vigorously. Time to clear the cupboards of the superintendent and all the assistant supers, along with the high school principal, his vices and the athletic director and his assistant. They've failed miserably and need to go!

Someone who holds such a position as this, should have the obligation to report to authorities within a timely manner if there is suspicion of a crime being committed.

I believe that failure to report a crime being committed, within a timely manner; especially when it's sexual in nature is a Class D felony in the state of Indiana.

Um, not to fuel the fire, but the comment that nothing like this has never happened in his 40+ years is a boldfaced lie. There was a basketball coach in the late 80's early 90's that ran off with a student and got married after she graduated. It was pretty obvious they had been carrying on a relationship before she finished school. Coincidently her father is/was also a teacher within the district.

Have I missed it in another article or the comments about those articles, but why is the fact the Superintendant dealy with an OWI and the Board just brushed it under the rug, with a little slap on the wrist. The community really thinks that anything is going to do anything. I realize Wolf has already quit, but the school board should really make the Furniss' issue and Wolf issue a point to show that ethics and morals and doing illegal things are important. If not, then the Board needs to go too.

It's a no-brainer: we need a SPECIAL PROSECUTOR, an INDEPENDENT blue-ribbon panel to investigate, and a thorough house-cleaning of MSD administration. Randy Taylor has always seemed like a level-headed professional, and I can't help but wonder how much he knew; maybe he was keeping quiet since retirement is on the horizon for him. He handled the school shooting media inquiries last spring very well - interesting that Furniss rarely spoke or appeared in the media; it was always Randy. The nepotism and good-old-boy (and girl) network must be destroyed. We finally got rid of Auter, now what will it take to show Furniss the door. Take a look at Mooresville. They hired an outstanding leader, Mr. Lindsay, who is putting that school system "on the map" - they're winning awards right and left. MSD of Martinsville could learn a lot by taking a look at their northern neighbor.

lol Mr Furniss sure can't recall much can he? maybe thats why they spend so much time and effort thoroughly documenting every little slip a student maybe makes, and the rest of the time and effort investigating to see if those students did maybe drop something and not pick it up, or say the sh&% word or something important. Way to go Ron! or Cheers!, I should say.......maybe then he'll think its a toast and get down to business.....

Its a sad day in Martinsville when we think it is OK for a Teacher to have a relationship with a student. And that it is OK for Mr. Furniss to Drink and DRive...Very Sad..What happened to our ethics/morals...And it started way before these incedents..We had a athletic director sleeping with a teacher who both were married to other people...So this is what our kids learn from the MSD of Martinsville...Its Ok to commit adultery; Its OK to sleep with a Minor; Its Ok to drink and drive...If our school board does not want to stick up for what is RIGHT and MORAL we need to vote them all OUT and get a new school board in there...
