Iam sorry but I feel law enforcement has a lot to do with the coroners office due to fact of crime scenes. They work together on a daily basis. Nine times out of ten if the coroners office is called law enforcement is there.

What a breath of fresh air. Discipline, attention to detail and knowledge of the human bocy are strong assets in a coroner. Commonsense - just because law enforcement work closely with the coroner does not necessitate the coroner have a law enforcement background. The coroner needs to understand cause of death, which rarely has anything to do with a crime. CSI has overly dramatized the office of coroner. In those instances where criminal activity is suspected, law enforcement officers can be called in to handle it while the coroner concentrates on forensic evidence on the body. I think the lines get blurry when the coroner has been in law enforcement because they may try to be the police officer/sheriff instead of the coroner.
