After attending Saturday night’s home game, and seeing all the enthusiasm in John R. Wooden Gym, it brought back memories of how basketball and all sports in Martinsville use to be received by the local fans. It is sad to think that for most the reason they were there was because of everything that happened this past week with the boys basketball team. This team now has a 17-2 record which in the past you would have had to stand in long lines to get a ticket to attend their games. Martinsville fans have let an outstanding season almost slip by and these boys deserve more support than what they had received until this past week-end. It was good to hear fans as they were leaving the game talking about how these young men have responded to everything that happened this past week.
I was looking forward to seeing what the local news media’s take on Saturday’s game would be on Sunday morning. What a disappointment. Not even a score of the Saturday night game to be found in the Martinsville Reporter. We had reports from Decatur Central on Mooresville Girls, (there game started at 8:00pm at Decatur Central, Martinsville Boys started at 7:30) coverage of Swim Sectional, state wrestling meet. THE MARTINSVILLE REPORTER SHOULD BE EMBARASED BY THERE LACK OF COVERAGE ON LOCAL EVENTS…. For most I don’t feel that turning to the LOCAL NEWSPAPER sports page on Sunday and seeing the top story about Indiana University basketball instead for the Martinsville Artesians is what they would expect from their LOCAL newspaper.

Thats what Iposted ProudArtesian yesterday....not a thing on our local sports but oh we get the Bloomington stuff shoved down our throats. Thats what i say the R T arent doing their jobs of promoting.Again i will say that when the glorified Bloomington Sunday Rag began, it was quoted by the R T that NO LONGER WOULD ONE HAVE TO WAIT TIL MONDAY ON THE WEEKEND GAME ON SATURDAY NIGHT...well that didnt take long to go by the wayside. Just a mention;just a mention of the score something..nothing changes with news reporting here..sorry!

I agree...but how is Mooresville girls regional game, Martinsville state wrestling and Martinsville swimming sectional not local and not important to you? Talk about the support of the community lacking...it only lacks in girls sports and things that arent as popular as football and basketball. I'm pretty sick of Iu getting the biggest picture on the page every sunday too, but we are close to Bloomington whether we like it or not. And by the way, there was a score from Saturday's game in this story that you just commented on.

O and one more thing...there's over a hundred comments on Wolf's drama, but the game against Whiteland...not one comment. U people feed off the negative stuff. U take a good story like this and take the time to post a complaint but wont say how great of a game whiteland's was.

I did not say the events covered were not important. I was pointing out that the Reporter has given the excuse in the past that some events were too late to get into the paper on Sunday. If Mooresville’s game did not start until 8:00pm and the Martinsville boys game started at 7:30pm and was over at about 9:15 why was it not included in the Sunday paper?

ProudArtesian - It started at 7p so please get your facts straight as well. Last time I checked, Decatur Central and Martinsville are about 40 minutes away from each other, so no matter what time they started, whoever covered it can't be in two places at once. And I'm sure if they had to chose, a regional championship game would be more important to cover than a non-conference, non-tournament game. You were the one ranting about how the community used to be supportive of every sport and now they're not, etc. and how there weren't in local sports in Sunday's paper. Well, there was, lots of it. Just not the event that actual occurred in Martinsville. So your definition of local is just what is important to you and what you want to read. I'm not on the RT's side by any means, I'm just sick of complaints after complaints on here.
Standingbye - There are no comments on Whiteland's game...atleast not the story of the actual game. And I'm NOT an idiot. I noticed that this story was in today's paper.

I was mistaken on the starting time. The Decatur Central site was the only regional site that started their Championship game at 7:00.
Is the Reporter so under staffed that they only have 1 person who can report on events? They have covered multiple events for years. They may be small but they do have more than one person covering events, usually one or two reporters for each community.

Well there was a state wrestling meet and swimming sectionals. I dont know if they have more than three reporters. Maybe somebody couldnt work. There's just a lot of issues there sounds like.
