Go after the previous Clerk!!! Make her be liable for what she should have done in the first place. Had she been actually doing her job and not taking care of her "farm" on Facebook maybe the town would not be in this position!!

I'm sure that the Town Clerk is not the only person responsible for Paragon's current problems. She is probably only the tip of the iceberg. How can these sort of actions go unchecked. And if they do, what does that tell us about how Paragon's leaders know what page they are on? Town meetings are supposed to address these sort of things. And if not, again what does this say about Paragon's leaders. Do they honestly expect us to believe that nobody but Vicki knew anything about these issues? And notice, Paragon's citizens will be footing part of the bill, just as I predicted. They pay for the total incompetence of their supposed leaders. Forgive me if I sound bitter, it's just that the town council messes up and we pay. A lot of passing the buck and no stepping up. Oh well, gotta' love the life in a small hick town. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

The "town" of Paragon could best serve its citizens if they ceased being a town. Those in office appear to lack the ability to run a municipality, and there doesn't seem to be anyone on the horizon who would offer a better alternative.

It is always easier to blame the previous parties of wrong doing in order to divert the light of question from yourself. Where are the books from the previous clerks period of handling them? An outside, private, uninterested auditing firm needs to take a look at those books and reveal the findings to the residents of Paragon. Those residents will ultimately end up footing the bill for those mistakes found, so they might as well know who made the mistake and what those mistakes were.

The IRS taking over the town would do nothing but benefit the citizens! Seems odd to hear about budget issues when Goss was issued a brand new 20,000 vehicle just a few years back. These are issues compounded by to many people being related biologically within the same governing body that represents the people.

New town hall building, having just gave away the old town hall, leasing it for a dollar to the "paragon Homecoming" the once a year festival (odd) Building a new water company building, buying a new town f250 ford superduty and hiring on 3 full time town employees, who can be seen at any given time throughout the week days kicking back everywhere including the liquor store (odd as well) No town that small should spend that kind of money period. Had Goss not been related, he would have never been issued such a new nice and expensive vehicle for which he racks most of the miles on, out of the town of Paragon. One would have to wonder just where Paragon got the funds to forward the nearly 70,000 to the IRS to avoid a takeover? Bray has been there a long time, helping to make town decisions, throughout all of this, I wonder how anyone in their right mind could even ponder his opinion without exploding at this point? In the very least the IRS would have repaired the towns finances and cut childish and favoritism family spending by 100% The people of Paragon need to remove all previous board members and Town attorneys, and start fresh with a emergency non-biased vote of all new and qualified people, unrelated people!

nobodyimportant- well said, the only "person" by all practical definitions, would have been the IRS, and "Paragon" just spent $70,000.00 to knock that option clean off the horizon. One cannot help but to wonder if someone down there in that establishment pressed for such an odd move to keep investigative eyes off financial records someone (Possibly Related) could have been held accountable for. The citizens of Paragon really need to get involved here and make changes across the board. Living there for a solid decade, knowing many of them personally, also refraining from negative commentary or gossip, but knowing a change is needed throughout the entire structure. Most towns would embrace a old town hall building with such a rich history, having been in then, and still very much is today, in very good condition. Actually being robbed by John Dillinger among other historic events. One could argue "needed room" as being reason for a new building havin been financed and constructed, until one measured the new building and found less. It really make not an ounce of sense, did'nt then, does'nt now.....

The Town Board allowed the purchase of things only because the Clerk gave them a balance sheet that showed the Town had the money to do so. At no point did the board have reason to check her figures. (which I am sure they will do from here on out). The Clerk gave them wrong figures so therefore the Board did not know that the Town did not have the money. You cannot blame everything on the Board or Goss. Think about it....how does the board know what kind of money the town has.....THE CLERK TELLS THEM!!! All you have to do is look at the audit reports from the the State Board of Accounts. That shows a lot. But remember when you are looking at them...they are a few years behind. Also, go to the Morgan County Clerk's Office...search the Town of Paragon on the public computer....look at how many tax liens the town had. Go to the Town Hall and look over the minutes....nothing was purchased without the Clerk saying they had the money to do so.

As I said earlier, too much passing the buck and not enough stepping up. And expecting the townsfolk of Paragon to pay more for their nasty drinking water, is just wrong. "Think about it....how does the board know what kind of money the town has.....THE CLERK TELLS THEM!!!" ??? Are you kidding me? Why wouldn't they know? Being an elected official is not a game, but a responsibility. Paragonites put you in charge in order "to" know what's going on. Building a new water company building, buying a new town f250 ford superduty and hiring on 3 full time town employees, who can be seen at any given time throughout the week days kicking back everywhere including the liquor store, are exactly the sort of things the board should be more involved in and follow up on. But what the hey, you can just expect the citizens to foot the bills for you. I've lived here in Paragon for over 20 yrs. The only thing to change are some new faces, new places, more drug dealing punks, different crooked cops, more promises and failures. I'm tired of all the gossip, backstabbing, and passing the buck. Why can't we have some decent responsible members on the board, who will actually know what to do, and address the important issues this town has. Do I sound a bit upset? Well I wouldn't want to tarnish the great reputation the town of Paragon has. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
