I was also born and raised in Martinsville. However many of my friends who have moved here later in life have expressed how difficult it is to fit in. Sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees. If we continue to be inwardly focused and do not accept others who move into our community, we are doing a disservice to ourselves and our community. It amazes me how every time something negative happens in Martinsville, the local born and bred citizens rise up to tout their pride in the community. Every place has its good points and bad points. Being a realist, I can say I see both. We need to deal with systemic issues that plague our community and not turn a deaf ear or blind eye to some problems that need to be dealt with. I would much rather live in a town that is full of integrity, honesty, morality and hospitality than a community filled with pride.

Nicely said Jane. It is very hard to meet people here unless you a connected to someone who was raised here in town. Not even in the county. People are very gaurded and not friendly. Maybe it is because they know things that the community is trying to hide. Like the things that have been in the news recently. Would be nice to seem some growth and positive things going on around here.

An old man was sitting on a road side. A stranger happend by and asked the old man,
" What kind of town is this?" The old man asked "What was the town like you came
from?" The stranger said "The people were mean and complained all the time."The old man said thats the kind of town this is.
A little latter another stranger came along and asked the same question. The old man asked him what the town was like that he came from. The stranger said every one
was decent to one another and treated each other with respect. The old man said thats the way you will find this town.
