Police review actions in chase

I have no problem with the officer that fired his weapon. They are issued guns to use if the situation warrents, and a guy in a car trying to run the officer down sounds like a reasonable reason to use his gun. The driver was lucky he only got the tires shot out. |
| RaynBo Tuesday, February 28, 2012: 2:28 pm More from RaynBo | I agree, the guy felt him getting away was more important than the safety of anyone in his way. This could have turned out very bad if this moron had struck another vehicle, a bicyclist, pedestrian, or a child playing in their yard. The officers had to react quickly and I believe they did what they believed was warranted for the situation. |
| Baba Tuesday, February 28, 2012: 3:07 pm More from Baba | Isn't it easy to second-guess the police, and the actions they took. They didn't know who he was, where he was going, why he didn't stop when confronted, whether or not he was armed, or if he had just committed a crime and was trying to get away. Next time you need the police in a hurry, remind them not to go over 40 mph on their way to assist you... |
| thumper342 Tuesday, February 28, 2012: 10:21 pm More from thumper342 | “I read part of the police report and I feel better about their actions. I had concerns about a shot being fired by an deputy, but I found out why it happened.” Yes, I'm sure that none of Martinsville's finest would ever falsify any information given. "Ruben Mancillas, 22, is facing multiple charges after he allegedly struck another vehicle at the intersection of Washington and Jefferson streets with his car, then fled the scene." I hope a police officer saw this alleged occurrence and not just took the word of the person who reported it. Because the last time I tried to report an incident similar to this, I was simply told that it would be reported and checked into. Nothing ever came of it. Don't get me wrong, I respect the law, but Martinsville police are not exactly a bunch of stand-up guys. They are known for their inept and irresponsible ways. And before you praise their actions in this case, keep in mind, a gun was fired within city limits. Any innocent bystander could have been injured. Either by a stray bullet or ricochet. But I'm sure 'ol deadeye had all this in mind. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!! |
| realinsight Tuesday, February 28, 2012: 10:41 pm More from realinsight | Not taking a clear and open shot at the tire of a vehicle you know to be causing risk to the public or anyone else, would be plain silly. Who would not take that shot? |
