Trustee, board clash over roles

If I was on the board I would be pissed also. I never agree and dont care for mr bolin but he has a good point and I will agree this one time. They need to sell the trustees office! Its costing them money and money they dont obviously have. The fire dept has 3 buildings up there he could put his office in and save A LOT of money by doing that. Folks just remember what good ol Scotty is doing because he has his eyes set on running for mayor in the near future. Is he going to tell the council its none of there business like he is the twp board? He said he was going to do all kinds of things if he got elected and yet he hasnt. Wish I could have my vote back!! |

I do however, agree that this board needs to communicate. Weaver though.... he lacks very much in the communication department. He just knows dictatorship, or bullying. |

I would say that pretty well hits the nail on the head!! The pubah's forked tongue at its best! |
| nobodyimportant Thursday, March 15, 2012: 9:43 pm More from nobodyimportant | Knowing nothing more about this than what I read in this article, it seems to me the relationship between the Trustee and the Board is broken, and that usually takes both sides being unmotivated to work together. It was a faux paux for the Trustee to communicate whatever he wanted the Board to know in a formal letter. That smacks of legalism and an attempt to bully. I rather suspect we don't know what methods of communication have been attempted before, but this is the one being reported. I rather suspect that this structure (Trustee-Board) wasn't designed to produce conflict, so the problem most likely is that the individuals don't want the relationship to work. Maybe the thing to do (until the antiquated township system is put into the history books) is to wipe the slate clean and start over with new faces. |
| iberry Thursday, March 15, 2012: 10:57 pm More from iberry | The state provides training without spending $1000 hiring an attorney. It sounds like no one knows what their job is. For pete sakes, if you are going to run for an office, find out something about it first. Then the state has telepone numbers to call for help. It would have cost our township $40 for each one of our board to go to Indy for training, but I said spend that $40 on someone who needs it since there are always people who need help in our township. I am on the township board in another county. Scotty must have gotten rid of everyone who could have helped him-maybe they needed to go but there are so many guidelines and rules that must be followed.Don't spend the taxpayers money on your education. |

| nobodyimportant Friday, March 16, 2012: 9:08 am More from nobodyimportant | Nothing wrong with finding out what rules govern the job, what roles each party plays, and how they are supposed to work together. It is strange that this was not done prior to running for the office. It is more than strange that something as simple, and I do mean simple, takes a 5 figure opinion by an attorney. This is local government for crying out loud. How many townships are there in Indiana? How long have these units of government been around? This isn't rocket science. Are there none where the Trustee and Board do what they are supposed to in collaboration? The Trustee and the Board should take off the gloves, sit down and make a commitment to serving the township by working together or bow out and let someone else do it. In-your-face actions that attempt to paint others as unlawful or obstructive don't help. I know that I am drawing attention to the Trustee in this situation and there is always another side of the coin, but I am just responding to the story. Everything the Trustee put in the letter may be 100% accurate, but it appears the manner in which he chose to bring that to the Board set up a snit rather than an "ahhhh" moment. Hopefully the Reporter is going to do a follow-up that brings to light the entire situation |
| Bluecollar Friday, March 16, 2012: 10:22 am More from Bluecollar | Danny I'm with you this time. A local attorney would have no doubt led him right back into small town politics. Good for him for getting outside this little closet town and trying to bring change. |
| mcbacker Friday, March 16, 2012: 10:44 am More from mcbacker | $1000.00 for two hours of time with an attorney would mean that the attorney charges $500.00 per hour which is seriously high for an attorney in Indy much less an attorney from Columbus. I think that is way too high an amount to pay for some training. I would not be happy if I lived in Washington Twp. |
| Danny Stewart Friday, March 16, 2012: 11:32 am More from Danny Stewart | Nobody, Maybe, but now that he has attained the proper knowledge of the job, he's likely to now going to have to deal with the good 'ole boy club as Bolin is a member of it. |
| nobodyimportant Friday, March 16, 2012: 5:36 pm More from nobodyimportant | Danny. I suppose you are right about having the correct information. The issue is, did it take a Columbus attorney to provide it or is it just simply a confirmation of the laws and rules any intelligent citizen could read and understand? I would be interested in seeing what clear actions by either party were overstepping jurisdiction. It all sounds petty. As for the "good ol' boys club", that's the definition of those in power. To that I say, "ole". |
| Danny Stewart Friday, March 16, 2012: 6:37 pm More from Danny Stewart | Nobody, Your definition is close, but not quite there. While it may seem that the ones in office are the ones running the county or town, whichever the case may be. It's not all of it, but I'm sure you know this already. Sadly, most of the ones that run things in this county are not in elected positions. |
