| Moose 65 Wednesday, March 21, 2012: 4:53 pm More from Moose 65 | I believe if Mr. Costin takes the lead in this situation and stands up for his beliefs and determation this should all work out well in the end. |
| Cerberus Wednesday, March 21, 2012: 8:48 pm More from Cerberus | “We want the community to know that we are doing something. We are trying to make it right. If there is this ‘good ol’ boys’ situation that we’re hearing about, we’ll find it. There are going to be some changes.” Really??? If this is true, the precedent has already been set that you can "retire" without any real penalty...sounds like the 'good ol'boy' network to me. Retire now while you can or be ratted out. It will be interesting to see the outcome. Either the board will come out taking a stand and doing the right thing or it will lose all creditability. I am sure that those who work in the MSD of Mville are very aware of situations that have occurred. Time will tell! =================================== Teacher/Administrator (Both Apply) "X" was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol (above the legal limit) in a school vehicle. Would the employee be able to keep their job? Seems like a precedent has already been set there too! I find it interesting, actually rather sad, that our educational system goes out of its way to insure that high academic standards are taught, but morals or the type of example that is being set for students by those who lead and mentor our youth is given little attention. Seems like a little more attention to insuring "high standards" in ALL areas would be beneficial. Maybe we should just set a goal of not making the news for any reason other than outstanding achievement in academics and athletics. Let's just try for one year...we can do it....yes we can!! |
| Has been Wednesday, March 21, 2012: 10:21 pm More from Has been | We must all take responsibility for our actions. Mr. Costin and the other board members must review contracts certainly. More importantly they must enforce the contractual responsibilities they find upon review. |
| Whadda I. Know Wednesday, March 21, 2012: 10:42 pm More from Whadda I. Know | Perhaps the confidence in the school system by the parents, tax payers, and student body could be greatly increased if ALL employees of the school system, including the superintendent, superintendents staff and board members were subjected to a "background check" by an outside agency; Federal Bureau of Investigation, Indiana State Police, Morgan County Sheriff Dept., etc. |
| KenSnyder Wednesday, March 21, 2012: 11:36 pm More from KenSnyder | "The high destiny of the individual is to serve rather than to rule."--Albert Einstein I have long wondered why some people act in fear of losing small time positions like city council or school board seats. This fear drives them to avoid serving and leading. Whether Mr. Costin and the Board understand this or not, this community will owe them an un-payable debt IF they actually do what he said. We need this school board to serve the community by doing the hard things no matter the cost or consequences. “The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.”--Abraham Lincoln Lincoln's quote doesn't just apply to what is taught (curriculum), but what is caught (examples) as well. While we do need them to deal with highly inappropriate behavior--and they must do that--we also need them to take seriously the task of dealing with poor management styles and responsiveness to those outside the school system. Finally, I will add this: I am so thankful for those teachers and administrators, who love the students, love to teach, and love the work necessary that leads to changed lives. Thank you to all of you who are described by those words. You are making a significant contribution in our community and in the nation. |
| Just observing Thursday, March 22, 2012: 4:25 am More from Just observing | While I appreciate the efforts, I want to point out that Wolf left on his own, not "removed from the enviroment". Now I want to ask since this was a big issue on Face Book that has since gone away and I see and hear many discussing this. If you intend to enforce the "policies" are we going to expect a double standard. Why are two administrators still in place that are now married after their episode. Should I check the MSD'S policy on this or are we saying this is ok to our children. If your looking under the rug I suggest you check the closets as well, clean it all out! |
| Cerberus Thursday, March 22, 2012: 6:45 am More from Cerberus | @Whadda I. Know They are subject to a CRIMINAL background check. Does little to weed out this kind of issue. The check that is done does nothing for issues that are not criminal in nature. |
| Spanky Thursday, March 22, 2012: 8:09 am More from Spanky | I can only chuckle as I read this ridiculous story. All of this occured on your watch, Mr. Costin. You and the rest of the MSD School Board. The first step in this process is for you, and your fellow board members, to apologize for allowing the situation to reach this point. When I see your apology, I'll believe you're sincere in your efforts...and not just trying to cover your hindsides. Step up or step down, Sir. |
| realinsight Thursday, March 22, 2012: 9:08 am More from realinsight | Mr costin, this all sounds great, but in reality most of us citizens out here know no real process will become of the good ol boys. Are you going to review EVERY child suspended? kicked out? every one? everytime Mr heacock seen fit to kick a child out for a series of less then capitol crimes? just because it makes more sense to him? because he was read and read and developed in his head a warped version of school policy? one that delivers ultimate power to him, and good ol buddy Ron Furniss up top? are you going to look at how many request for expulsion Mr heacock sent to mr Furniss? BETTER YET, just how many ron forniss did NOT APPROVE? Most of us having to deal with the inner ring already know the answer, hard to believe you guys do not. Surly you would have looked into such one sided, walled up, never tested, yet always present actions in expulsion, would you not? HA! The answer is 0, zero times did Mr Ron Furniss even hint at not approving immediately, every single "referral" recommendation for expulsion. Funny thing is, I happen to know 4 sets of parents, all professional, all local, like myself/wife, who talk to each other out here in the real world and discover that "hey, its not just us" that school system, mr furniss, mr heacock has kicked out several teens for less then good reason. The common opinion is possible higher ISTEP? Either way you stack it up, its there to see in the records, thoroughly laiden with the miles of paperwork heacock stacks upon it. I have a teen boy now in the military, having finsihed in the top 2% out of 240 cadets, whom mr heacock kicked out for saying "Sh&t" his power in the school systems is awesome, extended by ny the constant backing of his peer and old classmate, lifelong friend, one day Mr Heacock will make a mistake, everything that comes around goes around indeed. Keep that in mind while your flipping through those papers till April. |
| Outside looking in Thursday, March 22, 2012: 11:04 am More from Outside looking in | I think this school board has swept a lot of things under the rug! It wasn't that long ago that Ron Furniss was arrested for drunk driving! The superintendent of the school system setting an example to young minds, "It's okay to drive drunk"! I did it and nothing happened! He should not be employed by the MSD! I cannot believe that it was swept under the rug! What does the school board have to say about that? I bet there is even more things that most don't know about hiding in some of their closets! I don't live in Morgan County, but if I did I would not rest till there was an all new school board. Every single member needs to be voted out! It sounds like the "MSD Mafia" is in control and everyone is scared! The kids deserve better of their educators and superiors!!! Get the CORRUPTION OUT! |
| Blessed Thursday, March 22, 2012: 11:20 am More from Blessed | Outside looking in--------I can see you have probably never been on a board of directors etc. there are rules by law that must be followed..there are things in contracts that must be followed etc. And remember there are several individuals on these boards and it must be a majority that votes for or against for a motion to pass. So until you have walked in someone else's shoes, just keep quiet..especially since you don't even live in Morgan Co...Why don't you run for the school board in the county you live in???????? |
