Lugar, Mayfield, Brittain-Minton draw praise

You speak of a need for new faces taking office yet you want the voters to support Lugar who has been in office some thirty years. You speak of officeholders who do not finish out the terms voters elected them to yet you want the voters to elect Mayfield who has more than two years left of her second term. Mayor Deckard and many others in making a career have done the same. If memory serves me right May Cooper left the Treasurer's Office to become Auditor. I've met Daniel Elliott who is running for State Rep and find him to be a new face, a small business owner, involved with his family in this community and sincere. He is one of us. As for May Cooper, she was narrowly defeated by Peggy Mayfield in the election you speak of. May has shown the experience that is needed. Her community involvement speaks well of her. It shows that people value and trust her in her decisions. Friends of mine are accountants and I'm puzzled why an accountant would leave a position to work at a salary much less than one would expect she is currently making. Has it been stated where she is employed? Regardless of who is elected, I hope they will be present daily in their office. |
| concerned resident Tuesday, May 1, 2012: 5:55 pm More from concerned resident | May resigned from the Auditors office Dec 31, 2005 according to the information contained in the reporter. But you may be correct that she left the Treasurer's office to go the Auditor's office. Office Holders used to jump around offices to be able to stay on the county payroll. |

No he won't. Too many ticked off conservatives. |
| carrot-top Friday, May 4, 2012: 6:47 pm More from carrot-top | Mourdock is a teaparty candidate - if that is your "cup of tea" that's fine, but they are not the Republican Party I've always supported, and I know this is a feeling shared by many conservatives. |
| Danny Stewart Friday, May 4, 2012: 6:50 pm More from Danny Stewart | Three cheers for the tea party movement. |

| Ratcatcher Friday, May 4, 2012: 10:02 pm More from Ratcatcher | Except in the eyes of the Hamilton County tea party. Those idiots are supporting Lugar. And if it wasn't for the fact that the Republican party has been taken over by RINOs and moved to the center there wouldn't be a need for a Tea Party. |
| nobodyimportant Saturday, May 5, 2012: 7:49 am More from nobodyimportant | It is a lesson in modern day politics, Ratcatcher. Extreme right or left movements are only seasonal and serve primarily to influence. Getting elected, then governing requires putting together coalitions of thinkers/positions. Ultimately, the great middle governs, with fringe elements getting small pieces of the agenda. That's why the Tea Party isn't registered as a political party. They have enough smart people that know they could not win a general election as an alternative to the Republican mainstream. So, they attempt to tug on the powers, attempting to pull them out of the middle farther to the right. Politicians like Mitt Romney know that they have to kiss their Tea Party babies, smile, promise, and make showings. But in the end, in order to keep the base broad enough to win the election, he is going to have to do the exact same thing with moderate and even left-leaning Republicans. After all, it is not about principle, it is about getting and keeping power. |
| Moose 65 Friday, May 11, 2012: 9:45 am More from Moose 65 | The Tea party has Harry Reed scared to death and he should be. He hasn't pass a budget in 3 -4 years and that is against the constition so why is he not ridden out of DC tied to a buck wagon with wild horses pulling it? Being a Democrat they are given too much leaway TIME KICK ThEM OUT and if the next group doesn't do it kick them out and this year it starts at the top. No matter which party, they should be afraid of the people if they don't do their job. |
