I think it's just being done to get the additional revenue when 69 comes through. Why isn't the county officials fighting this? They would be receiving the additional money. Who needs it more-city or county? I think county.

It is still all crap. I do not want to be forced into connecting to city water/sewer if I don't want to. I notice everyone is excited to tell you about "credits" and "savings" we may get, but when I am not paying any water/sewer bill right now-that is an increase. Property taxes will be an inrease when adding city taxes. My insurance is already reduced for local services. All I am hearing is that they want our money because they lost so much money in IPL closing.

I still cannot believe how people are under the impression the city really cares about what is about to happen to your pocketbooks over this annexation. The meeting approach alone should give everyone a heads up that they are not interested in having everyone on the same page at the same time. Confusion is much more suited to orchestrate this annexation. They know they are taking on more debt than the savings Umbaugh representative is touting. The bonds being acquired alone will eliminate the $700,000 in savings when the annexation goes into affect. They have assumed that your insurance company will be jumping up and down to give you a break on your homeowner's insurance rates. Call your agents now, I bet you will hear a different story about savings. The tell tale sign of this whole venture is the mayors statement in the middle of this article, The format,” Deckard said, “will never please everyone. Bear with us.” I highly doubt that is on the forefront of anyone's minds controlling this puppet otherwise known as the residents. Money is all they want bottom line! The "perks" they offer are coming out of your checkbook. The new fire engine's, personnel, etc. are coming out of your checkbook. The treasure's office is already stating 75% increase in some property taxes. I bet anyone that voted Mayor Deckard back into office who are property owners are kicking themselves pretty hard right now. I feel pretty good that I wasn't one of those people!!

Every comment above highlights why Martinsville is a risk averse, change averse, and zero growth community. Without annexation, economic development is not possible, and without aggressive economic development, there is zero chance of Martinsville ever attracting substantial employers to the City. I give the Mayor and Council credit for having the cajunas to actually take this on.

Not from here -it is easy to take that stance when your purse is unaffected. Until the coffers are balancedand peter is not robbing Paul economic development will not happen period. Adding fire and police trash service etc is not economic dev, it is more taxes for the residents of this town to pay in order to support those services. This country as well as county are backwards in thinking creating debt builds the economy. The house of cards is trembling now in the wake of past practice. This is one more circumstance that will guarantee more debt and ensure tax increases to cover it.

Now now, LilaMea, we're supposed to be team players. Using common sense is not a requirement.

TO FED UP Right on; they have to go further in debt every year to take care of the over spending now.We need people who know how hard others have to work for our money that "the good old boys" over spend.

No offense old timer, but that is not what the people want. The malority want things to stay just the way they are; a big mess with nothing being done about it. The last two election cycles have proven that.

It seems to me that if anyone knew what "the people want", they would be in office.

If this annexation is passed, you can guarantee (without a doubt) that the salaries for Mayor Deckard and his comrads/city and county officials will also see a padded paycheck. I know that the salaries of the city and county officials are public, but do you know how much Mayor Deckard is paid annually. Wow! And he has his side work as a realtor/auctioneer/public speaker (with alot of free advertising in his position) to help increase his annual earnings.

Ultimately, it is all about money. The property taxes will increase, the water and sewer services will increase every year, the required water tap connection fee will increase every year, and so on. And yes, people will lose their homes, and not be able to afford to feed their families, and not be able to pay the outrageous cost for the water and sewer so they will be shutting the services off, and people won't be able to pay for the gas to drive to work to pay for these increases. It's a sad situation. But know this, the city and/or county officials do not care about the residents in this community, and what challenges this will place on the residents affected by this annexation.

Obviously, the way the meeting was handled was ridiculous and a facade to confuse the public by not allowing an appropriate meeting agenda. Whose decision was it to set-up the structure of this meeting?

Thank God I do not live in this area of Washington Township, but I have complete sympathy for those that do. I will be attending the meeting on June 4th!
