I'd like to see the cost analysis that compared digging new wells versus putting in the carbon filters. If I remember correctly they were saying the carbon filters were supposed to last 5 years. Anyone in water treatment knows this is false.

You want to raise our water rates 49% and than ask for money for the fireworks? You must be nuts people now don't have enough money now to eat and pay their bills. If they are dumb enough to give money to the fireworks they deserve to have their bellies hurt.

After reading this article, something seemed left out. So I went back and reread the previous article on this rate increase.
What was left out was the mayors statement that the sewer rates would not be increased. And nowhere have I read or heard that the sewer rates would increase. However, something was still left out on this.
For those that are on city water only, only your water bill will increase. For the rest of us both the water and sewer bills will increase. Now before anyone gets all huffy and puffy, I didn't say the sewer rate would increase, I said our sewer bills would increase. There's a difference.
Here's the difference. At present, the sewer rate is set at approximately 2.5 times of what your water bill is. Take a look at your bill next time and you will see it. Now, with the water rates set at the current $21.16 for 5000 gallons, you can add approximately $31.74 on to your bill for sewer. This gives you a total bill of $52.90. Mind you, this is for 5000 gallons. It's likely that you use more than this if you have a couple of kids. Now, with the new rate going to $32.52 for the same 5000 gallons, you can add on approximately $48.78 to you water bill giving you a total of $81.30. Again, this is for 5000 gallons. This would be an increase of $28.40 to a minimal water bill. Of course, the more you use, the higher it will go.
Now, before anyone gets all upset at me or anyone else, I'm not saying the mayor lied about anything. He didn't. However, he did leave out the fact that our sewer bills will increase along with our water bill. As I said, he didn't lie, but it does seem to be a little disingenuous by leaving that information out.
