Teacher resigns amidst charges

| Brooklyn Thursday, May 24, 2012: 4:16 pm More from Brooklyn | I don't think Wolfe was allowed to retire. He 'resigned' also. Resigning was the one thing that the two coaches did that helped the school system. Firing a union employee can be a time consuming, and expensive ordeal, even when it is obviously appropriate. |
| Moose 65 Thursday, May 24, 2012: 7:10 pm More from Moose 65 | When is Furness going to retire? Quilty people admit they are wrong in their duties and leave. Other school districts are laughing at the people who run this school system. |
| LilaMae Thursday, May 24, 2012: 10:09 pm More from LilaMae | I thought there would be others with all the things that have transpired over the years. Those that sit in the higher chairs have been given the sign with the close of the investigation. I wouldn't breath easy though....Karma is always on the lookout for ways to come back around. |

| Spanky Friday, May 25, 2012: 8:43 am More from Spanky | Good thing he resigned, as our school administrators don't have the cahonies to fire anyone. |
| M-ville Parent Friday, May 25, 2012: 9:57 am More from M-ville Parent | Sadly enough, Coach Wolfe did indeed get to retire. He got 100% of his pension and 401k. All because he resigned. If he would have been fired, he wouldn't have gotten it. |
| ikb2 Friday, May 25, 2012: 10:31 am More from ikb2 | M-ville Parent I don't think that is correct. He was a tenured teacher and would have gotten his retirement regardless. If a person gets fired but has enough years vested they still will get their retirement. |
| freebird Friday, May 25, 2012: 10:40 am More from freebird | Who is the attorney representing Jeff McGown? |
| Brooklyn Friday, May 25, 2012: 1:24 pm More from Brooklyn | My understanding is that M-Ville parent is wrong. Wolfe did not retire, he resigned. There was no legal way of taking his pension or 401k away from him no matter how he left. The only thing at question was a one time $5,000 payment at retirement. His request to 'retire' was not accepted, but his resignation was. This saved the school $5,000, which was the only thing at stake. Wolfe resigned immediately which also allowed the school to stop paying his salary immediately. He could have waited, like Mcgown did, and been on paid leave during the investigation. |
| M-ville Parent Friday, May 25, 2012: 2:17 pm More from M-ville Parent | You are right, I apologize, he had originally asked for early retirement and right before the school board meeting at the advice of his attorney, decided to resign. |
| Brooklyn Friday, May 25, 2012: 4:11 pm More from Brooklyn | I think that Wolfe is 65 years old. His retirement would not have been 'early'. You were also wrong about his retirement benefits being tied to retiring/resigning versus being fired. Furniss and the school board may very well have done some things wrong leading up to this scandal, but they had no choice in how they handled the dismissal of the coaches. |
