We should not ask our law enforcement officers to look the other way to law trespasses. Having said that, issuing a watning and calling the parents to come get their kids would have been a better way to handle this.

I still say and believe the 3 options would have been better!! But after seeing the video, and alot of responsible people watching this show unfold, #4) let them walk the kids around the corner, then let the officer deal with this the way he did!! People ask "What coulda happened" and good questions and statements and I agree!! I,m just thinking about the kids involved here,, watching this fiasco unfold,, GEt THE KIDS with parents around the corner to the Candy Kitchen,, out of sight so they dont hafta see & remember this!! After the stop,, nothing was gonna happen, cept the kids watching this!! coulda been handled different, Love the kids!!

Sure the coach thought what could the harm be by loading up the back of a pick up with several children who are unrestrained.....but do you really think he would have done it had he thought of the potential harm and risk he was putting them in, and that potentially he would be the one responsible for creating a senseless tragedy in the lives of everyone involved. He would have had to answer to the parents who could have lost a child to death or sustained serious lifelong injuries. On the flip side, if a tragic event had happened everyone would be outraged that an adult loaded up the back of a truck with children and put them in harm's way. One risky move, one impulsive action, one person's disregard for the law....could change the lives of these young people forever and also this driver's life. I'm glad the officer brought it to the driver's attention because just because everyone is doing it or has always done it doesn't make it right.

If one of those kids would have been hurt you would still be blaming the police. grow up we all read about the tragedies in the paper about kid falling out of trucks during a fun event.

He stopped me at 5am on Mahalasville Road and showed no mercy and accused me of stealing the car.

He stopped me about six months ago going to work at three in the morning. Why because he accused me of Driving left of center. The street in Question had parking on both sides leaving little room to get between cars. So in my opinion there would be no left of center. Maybe Officer Richards needs to go back to Traffic School ????

The responses of you who support the children being transported in the back of a pickup truck are just an example of why and how our city is looked down upon as being Martintucky. Get a life and an education hilljacks, whether the scoop is 5 Min away or he was just driving them around the parking lot, it still compromises their safety. Proof of why there are a lot of unfit parents. Ignorance!!

nmp1 If the Mayor and Chief are smart they would advise ALL teams to walk or I would ticket them all and let the court iron it all out or we'll never get the issued resolved. But some will tempt fate. Enough has been said on this subject until the court hearing as it will change nothing until then.

Actually an earlier comment about the parade this fall is interesting. What's the difference between riding in or on a open trailer or truck in a parade or going to the Scoop after a game? Maybe everyone in the parade needs to walk! Or tickets for everyone!

Never heard the statement the mayor was supposed to make. I understand he was busy with his "land grab" meeting though....
