Indiana code does not require individuals in parades to wear a seat belt. Here is the Indiana code website that talks about restraints and exceptions. http://www.in.gov/legislative/ic/code/title9/ar19/ch10.html

We tell our children to obey the law, the law was broken. In a revenue driven society how much is banked from a warning ticket? Hence 12 revenue gaining citations. Always follow the money..

The most telling comment in the original article is that the coach said "he knew" that it was against the law to transport the kids in the back of his truck. He has no excuse. Chalk it up to an expensive lesson not to knowingly break the law.

Come on people, lighten up on Ryan. It must really suck going from hero to zero
as often as he has. Although it does look like he would stop trying to be the corpse at every funeral and embarrassing the community every chance he gets.

To Standing Bye and other negative Bloggers: How many times now has it been reported in newspapers (real black & white) and, how many times now on radio and TV (a real live voice) that: "The Seat Belt Law EXEMPTS all persons (children, adults, sports teams, etc.) participating in "Parades and Gatherings" from wearing a Seat Belt." Do you really NOT UNDERSTAND or, is it that you just like keeping the pot stirred!

Although I understand your point, your explanation of it is incorrect. Newton's 3rd law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Thus 2 cars colliding at 30 mph each will cause each other to stop. The occupants in your scenario who are not belted in will be ejected at 30 mph not 60 mph.

M-ville parent: I would like to teach you about kinematics. Kinematics is a branch of dynamics that deal with aspects of motion apart from considerations of mass and force. Let's say you have a baseball team riding in the back of a truck, that truck is traveling the speed limit at 30mph. Another similar size vehicle is traveling the same speed and they hit head on. The combined speed is now 60mph (highway speed). The people in the bed of the truck are now being ejected at 60mph! Lets say that the truck carrying the team is traveling at 15mph and the other vehicle is traveling at 30mph (the speed limit). They crash, the combined speed is 45mph. Hitting the pavement at 45mph can be fatal. Remember the fall or ejection doesn't kill you, it's the sudden deceleration at the end that does. It doesn't take that much force to kill you when you strike your head against a dense object. Both vehicles can be traveling at 5mph thats all it takes.

Now that Officer Richards open the can of worms Mr. Mayor. Is it not against the law for loud music playing in cars driving around town ? Is it against the law for children younger then 13 to ride mopeds without helmet on City streets? Is it not against the law to have pipes so loud on Motor Vehicles they can be heard from miles away? What about all the riding lawn mowers being driven on City street by individuals who have lost thier license due to alcohol is that not against the law? How about parking on sidewalks is not against the law? Parking the wrong way on City streets( City police as well as City fireman do check out north lincoln street any week end) is this not against the law? To say Officer Richards was doing his JOB just like all the rest only when he wants to. This can go on and on about what they don't do.I'm only say if you go after kid in the back of a pick up. Then Mr. Mayor lets really clean things up.
