Danny, shame on you for judging people to be "stupid", "lacking brain power", and "arrogant". Nobody deserves those labels. And to ascibe motive to why you think people will vote for the proposal is nothing but gossip fabricated in your mind.

When municipalities annex congruent areas, it will not please some people. That is a given. There are cogent arguments for and against this particular proposal.
After hearing those arguments, a decision will be made and we will all move on. And those that made the decision will have to defend their votes in the next election. That is the way our great country is governed.

But in the midst of all of this, we can be civil. It is the right thing to do.

Nobody, I was being civil.

As for my assessments, I stand by them.

It appears that Danny Stewart can now add "Mind Reader" to his resume. That will look impressive under his other experience of Career Paper Route Delivery person, Energy Pill salesman and twice failed candidate for Mayor for the City of Martinsville.
Danny, please realize that Martinsville is a city and not a town as you indicated.

Danny, I used the admonition to "be civil." Let me remind you of the meaning of civility: 1.Formal politeness and courtesy in behavior or speech.
2.Polite remarks used in formal conversation. Read your post again and make an assessment of whether or not you were being civil.

Beyond that, In Jesus' Sermon on the Mount he spoke what we call the "Golden Rule." I think that also applies here. Would you appreciate being labeled as stupid or not having enough brains to know the difference? I think not.

Thrn perhaps you should speak to a current city councilman and a former councilman that are gutless wonders when they get on here and bad mouth everybody. Till then, keep your sermons to yourself.

I'm sorry, I should have said two current city councilmen and a former one. All of whom have a nice yellow streak running down the middle of their spineless backs, cause they are too cowardly to give their real names. Then again, if people knew how they really are....

The difference here is, I have respect for Doug. He doesn't hide. We disagree on a few things and I'm fine with that and I beleive he is too. Plus our conversations have always been civil.

The other three, as far as I'm concerned, are trash.

How's that for your civility.

The one civil law that the apostles would not follow was the command of the Roman Emperor to cease preaching. Thank you Danny for reminding me just how important it is to apply Christian principles to everyday life, including conversing on this blog and not be intimidated by those who would silence the "sermons."

For the record... Jesus didn't do anything anonymously.

The real issue here is not really annexation or not -- it is that the process by which annexation is performed is inherently un-American. The law, as written, gives those being annexed no rights whatsoever. That, by definition, is tyranny.

Folks have trumpeted loudly that their is a process written into law on how to annex areas and that process is being followed. That's fine. However, the process that is codified in the law is tyrannical and unfair. Just because it is codified in the law doesn't make it just. The only influence that we as ordinary citizens have over our government is through the vote. Once folks get elected, they are basically unaccountable until their term is complete. The current laws regarding the buffer zone and annexation process were clearly written by legislators from large cities who enjoy the power that comes with being a State Representative or Senator. It's likely that those laws were passed with little notice from the public at large. I know I had never heard of them until bumping into them after buying this property. In this case, I have no influence at all because I didn't get to vote for the folks on the council. This is the ultimate form of tyranny. A governing body which does not represent me or have any accountability to me is imposing its will upon me and starting down the path of depriving me of my property rights.

Bottom line -- until we can influence enough legislators to change these laws, we will continue to be deprived of our rights and due process. Power has a tendency to corrupt. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Unrepresentative power is tyranny.
