I'll wait till I hear "the rest of the story." I find it hard to believe that a modern day engineering firm would "Ignore details, particularly when confronted with incontrovertible proof."

WOW
This is prima facie evidence that Holloway is either dumb as a box of rocks, which I don't believe, or he is overinvolved in this land grab by Deckard. The picture in the paper does not lie Mr. Deckard. The land is flooded. LOOK!!!

We all suspect that you and Holloway are scratching each other's backs and taking care of each others wallets. And you wonder why folks think this way? With facts and photo's like this, it is the only conclusion that Joe Sixpack can make.

I think this would be a great piece of land for a business to move into. They could build their entire structure on stilts like all the houses on the East Cost or Biloxi Mississippi. Martinsville would be the ONLY place in the world where a factory is actually built on stilts. Think of the tourist money that would be brought into this town!!$$$

Perhaps we could even get a factory here that makes boats, swimming suits, or rubber duckies. Then their testing facilities would be on the bottom floor.

Brilliant Mr. Holloway. Just Brilliant. Thank you!!

To Shakika:
Could it be that you are a complete idiot or, could it be that you don't follow the news (as reported several times)or...don't take time to attend any of Council Meetings? I don't ever recall reading where Deckard ever proposed the annexation areas...and, I have heard that Deckard has no vote on the annexation. So how is it his power grab, or trying for financial gain?? I've surely missed something somewhere!? Or, could it be that he and the council really do care for this city and want to explore all sides. People like you must really make it difficult when you have all the answers...but never contribute. Just sayin....

Recent discussion overheard after the city council meeting.

Reporter: "Mr. Hollow-head, what is the difference between a shovel ready site and a flood plain?"

Mr. Hollow-head: "Nothing"

Reporter: "Then you quit burying your head in the sand in the west business park because you WILL drown after a good rainstorm".

End of story

If I remember correctly, the last time someone was able to successfully stop the flood waters was described in the Book of Exodus. I'm not sure the present city engineer runs in that crowd.

To The Point. If you are saying Mayor Deckard has nothing to do with the Annexation plan, You are sadly out of your mind. First of all, it was said they had this plan in the works for the past three years. Second, he let the cat out the bag in the chamber questions last fall. Now it may not have been his brain fart but it had to have the blessing and endorsement of the city council. The annexation plan will set on his shoulders and counsel for years as the biggest blunder of our century. The whole proposal smells just like the business license fee the city is in need of money! You can not cover up bad spending decisions with out more cash flow and that is shrinking. HENRY KISSINGER stated " Just because you are articulate is not the same as having analytically skills". This situation needs to be analyzed by all the residents of Martinsville. Those it does and does not affect because it will affect all the residents of our great city.

With the likelihood of annexation looming, I think that the people who are going to be annexed need to remember that even though they had no say whatsoever in the past mayor and city council elections, they will have plenty of say in the next.
The council seems to be forgetting that by forcing these people into living in the city of Martinsville, they are adding a lot of potential voters who are probably very dissatisfied with the current people occupying the council seats.
I'm sure that these new voters will make sure that nobody gets a re-election, and that a fresh group will be taking the position of city council.
I say go ahead and annex them, please. The people who were already registered voters wanted to just stick with whats comfortable and elect the current council we have. When the time comes for the next election I'm sure that those who were annexed against their will will be sure that nobody in the current council keeps their job regardless if they voted for or against annexation. Nobody will remember the individuals, only the council as a whole.

Maybe this is the final push this city needs to finally begin making beneficial changes starting with all of those who hold office.
