City Clerk “Mary Lou (Peden), tells me we’re not in financial trouble,” Deckard said before asking Seever to comment on that issue.

They will be in trouble very soon. That is why this is being done. The water system is totally Imploding thru under charging and bad management.

“The city is in reasonably good financial shape,” Seever said. “This is not a money grab, but it would be better to lighten the load on those paying taxes.”

In other words Mr. "round mound" Seever, we want money from the country folks to SUBSIDIZE the folks in the city. We all pay taxes Mr. humpty dumpty!! Go buy another triple cheeseburger, and charge the taxpayers of Martinsville for your happy meal!!!

I have never in my life heard so much doublespeak or Clintonesque language since Bill Clinton told us that he did not have sex with Monica.

Seever is a jerk. At the last meeting we had, I approached him afterward and wanted to ask him a question. His response was "I don't have to answer any of your questions". Then he whirled his obese posterior around and waddled away. He is part and parcel of this whole money and land grab and they are DEAF to the taxpayers of Martinsville. They don't live here and they don't care.

Maybe I missed it but where is the County's feelings in all this annexation. I would think they would lose out on the taxes if the city takes over. They may get a cut but not the whole carrot.

Hey umm, Phil. Since it's well known that you have a history of lying to us, don't you think it's time to man up and stop doing it?

Can't make the new residents hook up to water and sewer huh? Guess recent history in Monrovia doesn't count.

To the Mayor

A little honesty would go a long way for you Mr. mayor. Especially about the things you say in public.

"There will be ample hearings and the citizens, the voters of Martinsville will make that decision, it will not be the mayor or the council, it will be voted upon by the citizens." On March 14, 2012 at the State of the City address, these words came out of your mouth Mr. Mayor. Another lie???? Mr. Mayor, where is the non-binding referendum?

How can we trust a man (YOU) who follows consultants instead of leading his people? How can you trust a man, who if successful in his own mind, stirs resentment, mistrust, and animosity amongst the townspeople? How can anyone (except Holloway and the consultants)trust a man to manage Martinsville who's city website is so hopelessly out of date that it prevents us from even knowing who the correct city councilmen are? Does you even care?

You are the Mayor building a bridge to nowhere.

So typical of passions getting out of hand on this site, attacking people instead of the issue. No need for labeling, name-calling, and personal attacks.

Nobody, the mayors attitude, demeaner, language and actions are all a part of this issue. When he or the people trying to do this say one thing thing turn around and say the opposite regarding the same issue, it is justifiable to call him out.

Regarding Fireworks....

“I was one of the last to give in,” Deckard said. “But we have so many people calling in with concerns, it’s the right thing to do.”

But with tons of folks calling in protesting the annexation,

"we do not want to listen to you and we will not change our course". Money talks.

Danny, language and actions are a matter of public record. Attitude and demeanor are in the eyes of the beholder and are subjective, influenced by your attitude and demeanor. I wasn't singling you out, but the shoe does fit. More than a few times you have applied descriptive adjectives to people with whom you have disagreed. You can get the same point across by saying, "on ______ date, you said "_____________". At ______ meeting, you took ___________ action." I still say that when you can't win an argument with the facts and turn to character assinination and name-calling, you have lost the argument (and lost your ability to convince others of your position).

Nobody, I was aware you were not singling me out.

My point was that you cannot reasonably expect the masses to react rationally when they believe actions being taken by government are irrational. To expect so is itself irrational.

Here Nobody, let me say it in a different way. For you to expect these people to not get ticked off over the shananigans this mayor anf his team of goons are trying to pull is rediculous. Nobody already living in town wants this mess, nor do the people living in the proposed annexation areas.

If you think the rhetoric is bad today, maybe you should read a littlr history. The political arena today is far more tame. And your holier than thow remarks gives everyone the impression that you are just another snob.

Oh yea, and unlike you, we do have a dog in this fight. Those of us living in town just have different point of view than the others but we see it the same.
