| Kim Friday, July 13, 2012: 2:18 pm More from Kim | Yeah, like Jesus said "these are my fishes and loaves! Get lost!" Oh wait.... Helping people isn't a terrible crime. Grow some compassion. Thanks for the list of places to donate. |

Don't know what real compassion is do you? |
| Kim Friday, July 13, 2012: 5:53 pm More from Kim | Compassion: (noun) a feeling of sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. Give it a rest. I'm not someone you can intimidate. |
| Danny Stewart Saturday, July 14, 2012: 12:00 am More from Danny Stewart | Ok, you've given me the text book meaning of compassion, which is not what I asked. I asked you what real compassion was. Which, from your response, you don' t know. |

| nobodyimportant Saturday, July 14, 2012: 8:19 am More from nobodyimportant | At the risk of being called "holier than thou" (again), true compassion is not about ursurping responsibility or having pity. Compassion comes from a heart condition that puts others before self and acting upon that. Compassion does not require a statement of need. Not every child who will receive a backpack and supplies has a glaring need for those things or has parents unable or unwilling to provide. Even random acts of kindness show compassion. Those acts are the result of a heart void of a desire to serve self. Compassion is caring not just about the physical needs of others. If just one youngster is moved by kindness (compassion in action) to look at school with more hope because of being blessed, or if just one parent is able to take care one more obligation becuase one has been lifted through the kindness of people who don't even know them, this all will be worth it. When Jesus showed compassion, it wasn't something that people earned. In His ministry, I see no evidence that He had a litmus test for determining if the person was worthy of His healing. His final earthly act, going to the cross, showed the ultimate compassion, loving us so much that He took the full weight of our sins, not because we deserve being saved, but precisely because there is no other way. He looked beyond our faults and saw our needs. |
| Danny Stewart Saturday, July 14, 2012: 8:23 am More from Danny Stewart | Nobody, you and I have had this discussion and we will probably always disagree. That's okay with me. I just don't believe in giving charity to those that are capable of doing things for themseives but would rather leach off the rest of us. Especially the chronic leaches. When I see people that are physically handicaped going out and supporting themselves, these people can do the same. Continuously giving them charity when they are simply too lazy to do for themselves is not compassion for them or their kids. It teaches them that they can sponge without having to earn anything. In other words, it ruins them. It is undignified for a capable human being to leach off others. |
| Danny Stewart Saturday, July 14, 2012: 8:44 am More from Danny Stewart | I would also add this. The book of Proverbs teaches us that the borrower is slave to the lender. Would it not be the same teaching people to depend on charity whether from family, church or state? |
| Sunny Saturday, July 14, 2012: 3:00 pm More from Sunny | Danny, I see your point in one case; however, I don't think the children should suffer because their parents are lazy or worthless. Now, if the opportunity exists for the child to earn something than so be it, but to deny them charity for something simple as school supplies I won't do. Furthermore...You were a supporter of "Right to Work", (Right to Freeload) which forced Unions to represent someone who doesn't pay dues for FREE...and allowed those who don't pay dues to receive the benefits and wages that a union contract provides for FREE. Republican legislation at it's finest. You support and vote for all these RICH politicians that give MILLIONS to charitable organizations! Their intentions may be to circumvent the I.R.S. or for good public relations purposes...but that's beside the point. There are freeloaders in this world and then there are people and children who can't help themselves and genuinely need help. I won't open up the Bible to prove this argument. |

WOW! The right to freeload is what unions have won for their members. The right to work legislation ended an oppressive practice of forcibly removing money from folks' paychecks to support Democrat politicians. Why should someone be forced to join a union just to work in an auto plant? The freeloaders are in the unions. |
| Danny Stewart Saturday, July 14, 2012: 3:11 pm More from Danny Stewart | Sunnyy, yes there are people that genuinely need help. There's nothing wrong with standing someone up that is trying to help themselves. |
