I believe it is time for our mayor and city council to give up on their plans for annexation now that the law is changed, and people do not have to connect to city water and sewer. Are we going to run water and sewer for no reason? Is Holloway still getting his 1.5 million? NO. It is time to bow out gracefully and with dignity. Lets not make this whole fiasco an ugly money drain on Martinsville.
It is time to fix the internal problems that Martinsville has. Our fire department left a house full of holes on Morgan street, a main access road into the city, and we are worried about our image? Come on ladies and gentlemen, open your eyes and use the brains God gave you. Why are we paying so called firms to tell us how to spend money and what problems to fix? It is simply money wasted to have someone else tell elected officials whose job it is to run and improve the city, how to run and improve the city.

I agree with the many points of this article, and would like to add some points of opposition to annexation in a neighborhood, such as Legendary Hills. As residents of this neighborhood, we too will be faced with many challenges if this plan continues. I am completely offended by the statements from council and city residents that we benefit from water & sewer services that we have not paid for. We pay the Martinsville Water & Sewer every month, and I'm sure the residents of Legendary Hills paid additional fees when the water & sewer were hooked up many years ago. Also, I do not recall the city paying for all the bottled water we have to purchase when the system breaks and we go on boil water. Water and sewer are not the only 2 issues. Legendary Hills takes care of its own snow and trash removal. I have seen the type of snow removal done by the city, and I am not very impressed. Martinsville is going to add 1 snow removal truck to service all purposed annexed areas. We pay private contractors through our homeowner's dues to remove our snow and they do an excellent job. If there are any problems, we find someone else to provide the service on the free market. This insures the residents of Legendary Hills safe clean roads for our kids to get to sshool and us to our places of employment. Also, we take care of road maintenance. I'm not interested in going on a waiting list to get necessary road maintenance done. If there is a problem we fix it. The city can not even maintain the roads they have right now. I understand the city wants to annex Legendary for the land by I69 to make money from the state. Go ahead and take the land by the proposed I69, but leave Legendary Hills alone. I know this is possible because the city has carved out plots of land to certain people already. It is clearly shown on the city map that was provided in our very costly certified mail regarding annexation. Again, if the council would listen to the majority of people, the answer is clear. STOP ANNEXATION!!!
