| McCullough Monday, August 6, 2012: 9:06 pm More from McCullough | Thank you City Council for giving Martinsville a chance to have some control over I69! Martinsville has finally laid the groundwork for Its future economic development that gives the City a chance to make I69 an opportunity rather than a detriment! Bravo Councilmen! The opponents will remonstrate but to no avail! |
| OU812 Monday, August 6, 2012: 9:28 pm More from OU812 | What's this?.....planning for future?!? I may faint. |
| MarkMcDaniel Monday, August 6, 2012: 10:23 pm More from MarkMcDaniel | I thought opponents had remonstrated and the plan went from 13 million to 800,000. Also from 620 homes to about 50 so I guess we remonstrated to no avail. |
| ronschoolcraft Monday, August 6, 2012: 11:38 pm More from ronschoolcraft | Those receiving the benefit of government largesse at the expense of others are always pleased. There are makers and takers in this world. The takers just won this round. |
| Moose 65 Tuesday, August 7, 2012: 8:33 am More from Moose 65 | I said it and my opinion again, Martinsville will not improve big from I-69 going through. It will be a,as I drive by, what happens in that town, but the city will benefit form increased taxes and the mayor and concil can now light their big fat cigars. |
| jimenicholls2 Tuesday, August 7, 2012: 9:26 am More from jimenicholls2 | Thank you Doug, Jeff and Bob. You seem to be liberty lovers and patriots. We appreciate your stand on this issue. Doug was right in his words last night when he said that economic development and the proper preparations for I69 can and would have occured without annexation. There is no evidence to support the argument that involuntarilly annexing (against their will) individuals properties will sway the placement of exits. Eric's speech was riddled with the socialist garbage of governemnt being the ever powerful and present provider, and the elimnator of poverty. Government does none of these things well, history is testament of that fact. If you are interested in working with the State legislators to get the Indiana law changed to remove the "involuntary annexation" portion of that law, please contact me at jimenicholls@yahoo.com or call/text me at 217-280-0227...more to come on that. |

| John Q Public Tuesday, August 7, 2012: 2:13 pm More from John Q Public | So now that the annexation has been approved, how much longer will I have to continue to drive to Indianapolis for a great paying job using my credentials? I've read that there are companies chomping at the bit to move so let's make it happen. |

| Sunny Tuesday, August 7, 2012: 5:57 pm More from Sunny | John Q Public, I am not quite convinced that through this "arbitrary" annexation that we will soon find ourselves in the midst of an economic upheaval. The property owners still have control of their land regardless of whose borders they now, or did fall under. I foresee many a court battles to come..."cough" eminent domain "cough". Please don't misunderstand me, I like Martinsville and I want to see our community succeed and thrive. I will hold the Mayor and the city council responsible to do everything within their limited executive/legislative powers to set the conditions right and to represent us in reaching out to business' to come here. What I will not do; and I am not saying this is the case with you, is accept the tossing of the entire matter of economic development into their laps and say "Here you go guys, it's all up to you...bring the jobs here!" Only to sit back and wait. They can't just wave a wand and wish upon a star. We as private citizens have a responsibility to our neighbors and ourselves to represent the city as well. I believe it's simple to keep your property maintained. My neighbor and I pool a few dollars together to keep the alley that we share free of potholes and spray for weeds on the sidewalks and curbs. We don't keep trash piled up on our properties or cars on blocks rusting away. Our communal appearance and our behavior plays quite a bit when a corporate executive(s) take a stroll through town to see what kind of workforce that they possibly will be employing. The amount of empty boarded up buildings (both residential and commercial) sends the wrong message. The half empty strip malls are privately owned, but perhaps they should consider a break for possible tenants during an economic downturn to prosper better...later. A few dollars is better than zero dollars. (Shrugs) For years we have been a bedroom community reluctant to accept new ideals and competing entities. Ultimately, through annexation or not, this cycle must be broken if it is to happen. |
| ronschoolcraft Tuesday, August 7, 2012: 9:42 pm More from ronschoolcraft | Ahh, utopia. Our communal efforts are for the good of the collective. Some folks just don't get it. |
