Council approves annexation plan

I, from now on, will not even read a post unless it’s next to a real name, and obviously will not comment on it or reply. They are by definition irrelevant to the debate. Thoughts? |
| Sunny Wednesday, August 8, 2012: 2:55 pm More from Sunny | As I have said many times, those that use their real names yet claim their own theories as the Gospel, doesn't make what they say true, or that they are more Christian, or patriotic, or more of a man. And no, someoneone using an alias doesn't make them a outcast. Ha! I could see you guys banning together and doing what you can to run these anonymous folks out of town! Pitch forks, shovels, torches, the whole enchilada! Yeeeeeehaw! |
| nobodyimportant Thursday, August 9, 2012: 9:09 am More from nobodyimportant | Sunny, while I don't particularly appreciate your personal attacks on this blog, I do support you in your decision to remain anonymous. I found this and I could not have said it better: "Many people don't want the things they say online to be connected with their offline identities. They may be concerned about political or economic retribution harassment or even threats to their lives. Whistleblowers report news that companies and governments would prefer to suppress; human rights workers struggle against repressive governments; parents try to create a safe way for children to explore; victims of domestic violence attempt to rebuild their lives where abusers cannot follow. Instead of using their true names to communicate these people choose to speak using pseudonyms (assumed names) or anonymously (no name at all). For these individuals and the organizations that support them secure anonymity is critical. It may literally save lives. Anonymous communications have an important place in our political and social discourse. The Supreme Court has ruled repeatedly that the right to anonymous free speech is protected by the First Amendment. A much-cited 1995 Supreme Court ruling in McIntyre v. Ohio Elections Commission reads: "Protections for anonymous speech are vital to democratic discourse. Allowing dissenters to shield their identities frees them to express critical minority views . . . Anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority. . . . It thus exemplifies the purpose behind the Bill of Rights and of the First Amendment in particular: to protect unpopular individuals from retaliation . . . at the hand of an intolerant society.'" The fact that several here seem insistent about revealing identities is enough of a worry for me to stay the course. We all have the right to ignore certain posters. I would't worry about losing too many readers of your posts. They probably won't be able to control themselves and peek now and then. The worst thing that could happen is they would form a little huddle and speak to themselves. |
| ronschoolcraft Thursday, August 9, 2012: 11:03 am More from ronschoolcraft | That same Supreme Court has made it clear that anonymity cannot shield one when using defamatory or libelous speech. So nbi claims that cloudy has the right to falsely impugn my character through anonymous name calling and other personal attacks simply because I offer logical disagreement with her positions. At least we all know where you stand. |
| Sunny Thursday, August 9, 2012: 12:44 pm More from Sunny | Defamatory and libelous, through a real name or an assumed name is the same transgression. It's very simple Mr. Schoolcraft, you came at me, so I came at you. I don't believe you are the type of person that likes someone who stands up to them, or can't shut them up. Which one of us is more in the right? To assume that you carry no fault in our "cordial" correspondence thus far is simply not true. You can passively imply the legal route if you like. I have big shoulders. When does it end? |

We are clearly not involved in the same conversation. Wow! |
| nobodyimportant Thursday, August 9, 2012: 8:03 pm More from nobodyimportant | Ron, you are absolutely right about anonimity not being a protection against libel or slander. I believe I made that clear a few posts back. You have the right to legal redress if you believe the words used on this blog by an anonymous poster rose to the levels of slander or libel. Anyone who posts on a public site like this, with or without self-identifying, is bound by those laws. None of us are completely free to do whatever we want. My freedom ends when it infringes on the rights of another. Those of us who enjoy the freedom of anonimity cannot use the hidden identity as a shield from legal repercussions. It may shield us against the few who would abuse the knowledge of our identity irrationally. In this day and age, with the "get back" mentality that is all too prevalent, and our inability to know everyone well enough to trust that a public discourse won't escalate to something evil, I'll play it safe. |

It isn't worth the time, effort or expenditure to go after legal redress for someone as petty as this. The truth is known, that's all that matters. I am comfortable knowing that I didn't delve into personal attacks. The posts speak for themselves. |
| Sunny Friday, August 10, 2012: 7:29 am More from Sunny | I have personally watched you "Delve" into personal attacks against myself, and many others on here. You have tried to paint it with a different brush and call it "Logical disagreement" with no sarcastic, superior attitude, or name calling of your own. In my opinion...you feel comfortable making excuses for yourself to feel justified. Yes...the truth is known, and anyone with an I.Q. above 50 can see that. Yeah we could sue each other all day long for name calling on a small town paper blog.... but we will agree on something, it's not worth it. I haven't been willing to let this go... On another matter that we can agree on! Yes, the posts speak for themselves! Have a good day sir! |

Classic case of projection. Not one word of this is true. |
| Sunny Friday, August 10, 2012: 2:30 pm More from Sunny | This is a classic case of denial. When one is faced with evidence he/she's only option left is to deny, deny, deny. |
