The last thing they need to do is give Downey more money. Why don't they watch what he spends. All I have read is the Sheriff asking for more money. Now he needs even more money. Look how many new vehicles have been purchased this year. They were not police vehicles, or at least not all of them. Dispatch personnel with take home car. Jail supervisor with take home car, and yes both brand new. Maintenance man take home vehicle???? Yeah, I'm confused too.
I think the only people with take home vehicles should be our law enforcement officers whom might be called out for emergencies.

Sorry sick of same but both the head of dispatch and the jail supervisor are called out on emergencies in the same manner as law enforcement officers. I have passed accident scenes many times and have seen the dispatch head directing traffic with his "new car". This actually frees a road officer to continue their patrol duties. You must be from Gregg Township with all those other "penny wise and pound foolish" people.

I didn't realize that dispatchers were given take home vehicles. Wow. Are they licensed police officers? If not, they should not have a car. Do other county employees get the same?

As a taxpayer I don't understand why jail personnel other than our officers are given tax funded vehicles complete with gas, plates and insurance. Why would a dispatcher, maintenance personnel, supervisor or matron need a new unmarked truck or car to drive home? Is this to be part of their salary and/or do they pay taxes on this? Do they have arresting powers? Where I worked we drove our own vehicle, had to provide proof of insurance and were paid a mileage per diem.

I understand your thinking, but they do not need to be called in for emergencies. There is always staff on in their respective areas. Our law enforcemtn officers however do get called out (BECAUSED THEY ARE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AND TRAINED TO DO THAT JOB). As far as them directing traffic, that is not their job it is in the dispatch center and/or jail. They are not police officers and not trained or legally authorized to do so.
As for the maintenance man, I forgot the "good ole Sheriff" as I recall went and got him a raise after hiring him. He now makes more than a Sheriff's Deputy salary. That has always seemed really wrong to me! I gues that just sums up what he thinks of his officers.

The people who work inside the jail have to go threw train the same as an officer does yes they have arresting ability's and are fully trained I will agree on 1 part I don't believe any of the officers should be taking there vehicles home and using them as a personal vehicle to transport there family on tax payers dollars if they would park the vehicles at the jail at night and drive there POV to work just figure the money that would save in tax dollars to be used.

Might do some checking. The dispatchers are actually civilian employees and at best special deputies. They do not attend the law enforcement academy, which is required for the full time officers. The jail employees are special deputies wich only have powers during the work time, they only attend jail school.

It seems that a lot of taxpayer money could be saved in gas and car expenses if these workers were to provide their own transportation back and forth to work. I see the need and benefit of officers taking home cars. Their presence on the roads is needed. Should they come across a mishap they would have the actual power to remedy the situation.
