Why didn't they drill new wells as suggested by the IURC instead of putting in the treatment plant? Band aid after band aid doesn't really help. Do it right the first time.

1) Annexation had to be done "right now" to be ready for the highway. It could not be delayed!! (Bowlen, Deckard, Buster, Deckard II, Holoway, and LesterJester) However, the well south of town does not need to be done for 5-10 years, sometime before the highway goes thru says Holloway. Huh? Which is it Mr. engineer? You can't have both? I guess you use different arguments for whatever you want to do.

2) "The city is in fine financial shape" Deckard.
"The water company is broke" Holloway
WHich is it? Can't have both.

You just transferred the salary costs from the sewer dept to the water dept since we just added a 40% rate increase to help pay for the salaries. So now, it appears like the 40% plus more will be blown on new wells and the salaries will further destroy the budget of the water company.

Mr. Mayor, is there anyone in city govt. that has a financial background? Does anyone in city goverment have a degree in finance or accounting or are you all just political gamers and school teachers? The contradicting statements coming out of city govt. should be astounding, but we are used to it. Sad commentary on the state of the city.

Mayor Deckard "We do not have secret meetings nor discuss these things out of public view"

Todays paper:The idea of purchasing more land for well-fields hasn’t been discussed at public meetings. After Tuesday’s hearing, Holloway said he had discussed the issues one-on-one with Mayor Phil Deckard and individual Martinsville Common Council members.

Huh?

During the hearing, the only witness was Ross Holloway, Martinsville city engineer. In his testimony, he answered questions from Administrative Law Judge Jeffery Earl regarding the contamination.

I feel better now knowing that Holloway is watching out for us.

People of Martinsville...this is not "tin-foil hat" stuff. Our city water department puts a known toxin, Flouride, into our drinking water. It is most likely a byproduct of the manufacturing of Aluminum, chemical waste, really.

http://www.informationliberation.com/?id=14949

The “benefit” has been sold to us as a way to increase dental health; but we know that it must be applied topically, like sunblock needs to be applied to the skin. What we are doing with water born fluoride is not unlike drinking sunblock and expecting it to protect us from a sun burn. Pretty crazy!

We know that Harvard recently published a study showing a link to water fluoridation and lower IQ, especially in children.

We know that Hitler and Stalin put Flouride in the drinking water of their concentration camps. My guess is that they didn’t do it because they wanted to improve the dental health of their prisoners.

Jim
you have solved the mystery. Our politicians have been drinking way way to much flouride laced water since birth. That explains it all!!!!

Jim,

Fluoride is naturally occuring and is a known toxin. If you intake enough yes you can have problems. Iodine is a similar element to fluoride. How much salt do you ingest, salt that has iodine added to it? If you take anything in abundance, even water you have the possibility of dying. Fluoride has been added to public water supplies for years and I have yet to see illness or disease or deaths when it is properly added and controlled. Would you like me to add to your fear mongering? Hydrochloric acid, ammonia, sodium hypochlorite, sodium bisulfite, aluminum sulfite, potassium permanganate, soda ash, sodium bicarbonate, and lime are common additives to water. Drink up pal.

Step up,

The contaminant was/is PCE or tetrachloroethene. The MCL was reached in late 2002 I believe. The corrective action was to drill new wells or build a carbon filtration plant. It is used in dry cleaning facilities and in some metal working factories as a degreasing solvent. It has a MCL of 5 parts per billion.
