As someone who suffers from chronic pain, the use of opioid painkillers are crucial to my life. A sentiment I'm sure is shared by many a person who suffers from chronic pain. I realize the potential for misuse of these drugs, however there has been such a stigma attached to these drugs it is becoming increasingly difficult for patients who need these pain killers to obtain them. Anyone using these medications is automatically treated with suspicion. There are such strict laws and guidelines put in place for physicians that unfortunately the simple use of these pain killers is put aside for more evasive, less effective and expensive procedures. Instead of treating ALL of us like criminals, punish those who do abuse the priviledge of using these meds instead of continually placing more and more laws surrounding the use of these to the point physicians won't even prescribe them for patients who desperatly need them.
