Cityliving. The relationships does not constitute a conflict of interest. To my knowledge, there is no relationship between the mayor and the schools, as there is also no relationship between the police department and the schools.

NoWhat Cityliving is saying, is as stated, "I am wondering if Brad Wilson or Ryan Ferguson are smart choices, if we are wanting Change for our students. Ryan is the grandson of the mayor and Brads'employment is with the city Police Dept. I just think that there is possiblity of a conflict of interest with these positions and this newly elected school board member. If we want to take a stand we need NO conflicts of interest!" I too have to find concern over that issue.

As stated previously, I also would like to find out more about Brock's training in business administration. As we're all aware this could range in anything from a basic math class to a complete business degree

I'd have to say that if he has actually done all he say's that he's done, and I have seen things about the issues he's accomplished in the past published a lot in the newspaper or radio he has every right to step forward and talk about his accomplishments. I mean, we are talking about the well being of those in our schools. I do know last winter when my mother needed transport to Indy for a required doctor's appointment and the aging services wasnt running that he had someone there to pick her up and take her. I believe that each and every candidate should be required to prove themselves.

However, I still am undecided about which way to vote personally. Still going to take some thought.

Nobody important I believe their is a relationship between our local PD and school system. Over the last several years there has been misconduct in our schools reported to our local PD and it was for whatever reason covered up or not handled properly. The mayor is over the police dept. That is why I personally believe it is a conflict with Brad Wilson and Ryan Ferguson being elected. I personally know both Brad Wilson and Ryan Ferguson and think that they are great people but, for this position at this time in our society we need to make the separation. (Sorry for the run on sentences :))

Maybe where we are apart is in the definition of conflict of interest. I am considering it in the legal vein, and there is no conflict of interest as I understand the relationships between the people and the entities.

If I understand what you mean is that once a member of a family becomes a public emplyoee that no other family member can also be employed by an public entity in that jurisdiction? Do you really want to have that as the rule?

No, I think that would be a crazy rule! In my own opinion, I just believe that in ones everyday life and/ or employment being in the situation that Mr. Wilson and Mr. Ferguson are in the influence of PD being their main employer or family being the mayor that there is potential for their judgement and decisions to be clouded. If we as a community want accountability and no longer the "good ole boy" system the cycle has to be broken at some point. I think that this is a perfect time to get a new board member in place with no doubt of any possibility of judgement being clouded..

I agree with whoever said we should know more about the ones running for school board. I can only comment about one who has been a very close friend for 35+ years. That is Charlie "Butch" Sampson. I have know him since he was a salesman here at the Sears store on the square. He is a very caring and HONEST man. He has had 2 children go thru our school system and 4 grandchildren. He would do anything to help others. He has been involved in the community for years, infact you will see him at almost every school function, from athletic events to open houses at the schools. He has done this for years, even before being on the school board. He truly cares about the kids here in Martinsville. He is definitely not one of the "good old boys" and he is always available if anyone wants to talk to him. Everyone needs to open their eyes and see what a good person we already have on the board....

So you are saying that any family member of the mayor or police department member should not run for the school board.
