| jimenicholls2 Saturday, November 10, 2012: 12:47 pm More from jimenicholls2 | The time is right to get the forced annexation law repealed. Sen. Jim Buck from Kokomo submits a bill every year to remove forced annexation but it always gets killed. Indiana is only one of four states in the country that have such a law, and it is a travesty of justice and hostile to individual freedom/liberty, as we have all seen this year. Let's make it happen people! Get vocal and active and hound your State congressmen! |
| abathar Saturday, November 10, 2012: 3:14 pm More from abathar | I really hope they win, this whole fiasco was orchestrated by a select few who think their opinion is worth taking others hard earned money to gamble with. No one is building anything right now, their are empty industrial buildings all over the place for sale or rent. As far as changing zoning later if an interested party wants to buy and build then let the landowner make the call if he wants to sell, and the new buyer help foot the bill for what they need brought in. |
| To The Point Sunday, November 11, 2012: 9:05 am More from To The Point | Abathar: Point missed. As explained to me, Regardless of what land is included in the Annexation, the present property owner STILL OWNS THE LAND, and will continue to own it till "H--- Freezes Over!" If business or industry comes along and wants to buy the land, it is still up to the owner to sell or not to sell. AND, the new buyer still has to help foot the bill for whatever services they need brought in. As I understand it, Annexation only help control what type business or industry could be located in that area. Just sayin'....... |
| MarkMcDaniel Sunday, November 11, 2012: 2:00 pm More from MarkMcDaniel | To the point: Let me explain some more to you. Other than the intersection at liberty Church Rd. everything in the annexation area is already in the City bufferzone, which as you say already controls what type business could locate there. So do you think it is fair that 3100 acres of ground and 140 families should have their property taxes doubled so that the City can tell BP oil which one of four corners they should build on at Liberty church intersection? Who knows at this time if any company whats to build there or if anything is for sale. Is the County totally incapable of making an intelligent decision? Do we have to have Ross Holloway tell us which one of four corners is the right answer? Maybe he should tell us now and then all of us would know and then we would not have had to go through all of this waste of time and taxpayer money. |
| jimenicholls2 Sunday, November 11, 2012: 10:38 pm More from jimenicholls2 | To the point, and others: Mark is right...how unfortunate that some of us have become so accustomed to what can only be called "tyranny", or at least the constant and incremental loss of freedoms and liberties, that we can't see it when it is happening right in front of our faces. Do you really OWN a piece of land when even if you own it free and clear, no mortgage or lien, with the title in your hand you still have to pay every increasing property taxes against your will for things you don't use? Look this up...property taxes are a relatively new thing. We didn't have property taxes AT ALL until about 60 years ago. Yet, today, we all accept them as normal. Doesn't seem normal to me! Seems like an incremental destruction of property rights. Forced annexation (only 4 states allow forced/involuntary annexation) is one more step toward that path of full on North Korea style Tyranny. It's no joke, that is how it happens...history has proven it. What is scary is, if we can go this far down the tube in 60 years, what do our kids and grand kids have to look forward to??!! Think about that...that is why I fight the never ending fight for individual liberty and freedom. The freer we are today, the better off our future generations will be. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. - Thomas Jefferson The answer to 1984 is 1776! |
