Evaluations are time consuming...Children undergo rigorous evaluations in the form of ISTEP each year going through days of testing not just hours. I don't think It's too much to ask for our Educators to be required to complete an hour or more of testing to ensure they have passed the necessary requirements to continue teaching. Let's not lose sight of the need towards evaluation just because no one wants to take the time for it.

LilaMae, Teachers today go through more training, more testing, more licensing requirements than most professions that exist. As with most of education issues, people just don't know or understand that issue.

Just because you receive training and licensing has nothing at all to do with whether or not you are a good competent teacher. Booger, teachers do NOT receive more training than "most" professionals FYI. This shows what you know. To say that, you must be a teacher or have family that teaches. I knew plenty of teachers with all sorts of credentials that could not teach their way out of a paper bag, and as a result, I suffered, and all the students suffered.

It sounds to me like the teachers want to test the kids but not subject themselves to any scrutiny. This tired old worn out union attitude should not surprise anyone who has ever attended school and had terrible teachers who should have been fired long long ago.

2500 teachers punished for sexual misconduct

There is no need to re-evaluate any of the teachers. RIGHT!! However, like any group of people, most are good, and there are bad apples that must be weeded out in order to help the kids.

Read this article that was just in the reporter times.

The vast majority of what I learned about being a teacher was in the first 3 years of teaching. The college preparation for applying myself in the classroom was inadequate, just short of being terrible.

Teachers need to stop running scared of being evaluated on effectiveness. There are pitfalls for sure. But even on an unscientific level, students know who the good teacher are and who are those skating by on tenure. There are some who never should have become teachers.

We need to start working together to find acceptable measures of effectiveness and instruments of uncovering ineffectiveness.

OK, so who should be blamed if there is a bad teacher in the school?

Who is missing from the "buck stops here" mantra?
